WALLACE CRUMLIN On Easter Sunday afternoon, a portion of a patrol of Cadette Girl Scouts of Troop 345 visited the Cornelia Blakely Rest Home on North Bell Street and pre sented a short Easter program for the patients. The patients were deeply touched by the type of program which was presented and stated that it had meant much to them. Mrs. Frances Judon, who directs the home, stated that since the patients cannot attend church, persons or groups are always welcome to come in and conduct worship services with the patients. The Cadettes who par ticipated were AndrenaStoddard, Deborah Barksdale, Sandra Da vis, Patricia Little, and Bever ly Brown; also Sonia Barksdale, a Junior Scout; Barbara Barks dale, a graduate of Senior Scout ing; and Mrs. A. R. Barksdale, troop leader. Please help keep Scouting alive and growing in Clinton. You may help by supporting Cadette Scout Troop 345 in its special pro ject The girls are raising money to help with summer camping ex penses. The Cadettes are to pre sent a Fashion and Talent Show on Monday night, April 21, at 1:00 in the Bell Street High School Auditorium. Please support this worthy cause. WEEKEND GUESTS Mrs. Mary R. Staton of Wash ington, D. C.; Miss Barbara Mur phy, Mr. Cecil Murphy and ne phews of Detroit, Michigan were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J. Rice and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas H. Rice. Mrs. Sta ton is the daughter and sister of the Rices. VISIT Rev. and Mrs. Alex Jones and grandsons of Union were Sunday dinner guests of Mrs. Lula M. Wilson and family. Later is the afternoon, they worshipped at Fairview AME Church where Rev. Peter Moon Sr. was the guest speaker. VISITS FAMILY Jesse A. Wilson, who is sta tioned in Virginia with the Navy, has completed a two weeks’ as signment in Maryland. He was in the city on the weekend to join his family on their trip to his base, two Wilson is the former Miss Annie R. LitUe. BOY SCOUT NEWS Mr. Clyde Lindsey, Jr.,Scout master of Troop #178, announces “Scout Day" for the Troop, Sun day, April 20. A special program is being planned. The purposes of this program are (a) acquaint people with the purpose of scout ing and (b) realize funds for scouting equipment and sending boys to camp. The program will be held at Friendship AME Church, Clinton, with solos, duets, musical instru ments, etc being presented. Ad mission will be by donations. As this effort is aimed at real izing funds for equipment and camping for the boys, it is hoped that many interested persons will support the cause. CHURCH CONFERENCE The Greenwood District Con ference of the A.M.E. Church was held Friday, April 11, at Mt. Vernon Church of the Clinton area. The Rev. C. W. Morton, pastor of the church, was host pastor. Dr. W. S. Mims presiding El der of the Greenwood District of the A.M.E. Church, presided over the sessions. The Reverend James Louden Jr., pastor of Fairview and El- zee A.M.E. Churches of Clinton delivered the annual sermon. The Rev. W. L. Hunter, pastor ofNew Bethel and ML Zion, Joanna, de livered the closing sermon. New Bethel and Mt. Zion choirs were present and rendered music. ADDRESSES P.T.A. The Martha Dendy P.T.A. met at Martha Dendy School, Monday, 7:30 p.m. Mrs. Lois Y. Davis, president, presided. Mr. Robert Y. Dendy, guest speaker, made a significant cash contribution, unrestricted, to the organization. In making the con tribution, he stated that his pur pose was simply to promote wor thy causes of the organization. * * * The U. S. Department of Labor now recognizes job-seeking drug addicts and law offenders as “handicapped* and offers them special help in making them selves employable. Local Students In Furman Concert Joey Lee, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Lee of Baldwin Heights; Collie Lehn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gary V. Lehn of 205 Chestnut St.; and Bob Powell, son of Mrs. L. V. Powell of 403 Chestnut St.; all of Clinton, will perform with the Furman University Concert Band Sunday, April 20, in the band’s annual spring concert. The program will be held at 3 p.m. in McAlister Auditorium and the puoltc4c welcomed. There will be no admission charge. The concert will feature a varied program of orchestral se lections, marches, show tunes, solo and ensemble numbers. Dan Ellis is band director and Larry Joe Cook Assistant director. e. His jamilv spent the past, weeks' with their family. Mrs'. BIRTHDAYS CELEBRATED Della L. Pitts and Sherry Ken nedy recently observed birth days. Both are first grade stu dents at Midway Elementary School. RETURNS TO CLINTON Mrs. Mary Teague Lindsay spent an enjoyable day in the home of Mrs. Bertha Ferguson recently. Mrs. Lindsay is now making her home in Clinton after more recently residing in New Jersey. HARLEY REUNION Mr. and Mrs. James Harley and family of Airport Rd., Clin ton, spent the weekend attending a family reunion with his brother, Joseph Harley in Walterboro, S. C. WOMAN OF THE YEAR Mrs. EmmaM. Thompson, 1969 NAACP contestantant for the Wo man of the Year title, was crown ed by Mrs. J. T. W. Mims on Friday night at the Plaza Motel in Laurens. Each year, the NAACP in Laurens County se lects a lady of the county for this honor. "How much insurance did he have?" ‘Too bad about Brown,” we say.
