years. At the time of his death,
he was a staffwriter giving spe
cial attention to court reporting.
A graduate of Clinton High
School and Erskine College (1942)
he attended the University of
South Carolina Law School. Dur
ing World War II, he saw ex
tensive combat duty in the Pa-

Kathleen Lewis (Kitty) Sloan,
herself a nationally publishing
free lance writer. They had two
daughters, Mary Lindsay, 16, and
Laura Lewis, 14.
Other survivors include two
brothers, James P. Sloan of Clin
ton and John L. Sloan of Green
ville.
Elders and deacons of the
Associate Reformed Presby
terian Church and members of
the Clinton High School class of
1939 were honorary pall bearers
at the service in Clinton. Mr.
Sloan was president of the 1939
CHS class.
In the Columbia services, staff
members of The State newspaper
were among honorary pall
bearers.
Active pall bearers were mem
bers of a military unit from Fort
Jackson.
In Columbia, the Rev. C. Ronald
Beard and the Rev. Arthur Mar
tin, D.D., officiated. At grave-
side^rvices in Clinton, the Rev.
Zeb C. Williams, Dr. C. Bynam
Betts and the Rev. Roy Beckham
officiated.

Fund, Tricentennial Com
mission, Box 1970, Columbia,
S. C. Mr. Sloan was a member
of the Tricentennial Commission

day night at the second annual
student teacher-supervising
teacher dinner in Greenville Hall.
The 31 PC seniors who did
student teaching in the public
schools of this area during the
1968-69 session will serve as
hosts to their supervising teach
ers on this occasion.

Crisis Subject
A specialist in Arabian history
will address Presbyterian Col
lege students on the Middle-East
crisis next Tuesday night in an
open lecture to which the public
is invited.
He is Tar if Khalidi, a native of
Jerusalem who holds an MA de
gree from Oxford University and
his PhD from the University of
Chicago, where he is now situat
ed on a research program. He
previously taught Arab history at
the American University in Leb
anon and plans to return there
this spring.
Khalidi will speak on the ori
gins of the conflict between Is
rael and the Arab states at 7:30
p.m. in Whitelaw Auditorium of
the Richardson Science Hall. He
comes to PC under the visiting
lecture series of the South Caro
lina Foundation of Independent
Colleges. The program is spon
sored by the Presbyterian Col
lege history department.
