Mrs. Jennie Cauble is a pa tient at Bailey Memorial Hospi tal. Mrs. George James of Duncan is a patient at Spartanburg Gen eral Hospital. She is the mother of Mrs. Cecil Wooten and Mrs. Ruth Beckham of this city. J. R. Hamrick is a patient at Bailey Memorial Hospital. Cecil Adams remains a patient at the Veterans Hospital in Au gusta, Ga., where he underwent surgery last week. The Church of God on Eliza beth Street is in a spring en larging campaign. Every mem ber or friend, that attends Sun day School or worship service, gives the pastor a point for a chance toward a free trip to a foreign mission field. Rev. F. D. Moore is the pastor. SUPPER AND SINGING The Church of God of Pro phecy on Sloan Street will sale suppers, Saturday evening, start ing at four o’clock. A singing will follow around 7 or 7:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend. Rev. Allard Parker, pastor. REVIVAL Revival services will begin on Sunday night, April 6, at the Church of God of Prophecy on Sloan Street. Brother Ruff of Greenwood will be the guest e- vangelist. COUNTRY MUSIC SHOW The Country Music Show oo March 29 at Bailey School spon sored by the PTO was a big suc cess with a large crowd attend ing. A 1956 graduate of Bell Street High School, he joined the company in May, 1964, as a manu facturing operator. He was promoted to fore man recently and is now attending a 12-week management develop* ment program. MACK PARSONS) Parsons Joins Clinton Mills On March 1, Carl M. Parsons, Jr. joined Clinton Mills as an employee and Public Relations Trainee. ‘‘Mack* is a native of Mc Cormick where he was top honor graduate of his 1962 high school graduating class. In 1966 he received a BS Degree in Business Administra tion from Erskine College. While at Erskine, he did free lance newspaper reporting and photo graphy for several daily news papers. Following graduation he joined Deering Mill ken Corporation and served as an assistant overseer of weaving in Kingstree and as as assistant overseer of prepara tion in Barnwell. He taught his tory in the Barnwell County Pub lic Schools while working the 2nd shift at Barnwell. Mack’s wife is the former Mamie Sligh of Ninety Six. They have no children. \ Cross Hill News BY MRS. SARAH SEEGARS The community was saddened Sunday a.m. to learn of the sud den death of Mrs. James A. Crisp, Sr. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at 3 at Liberty Springs Presbyterian Church with interment in the church cemetery. The Rev. W. W. Willingham will be in revival April 6-13 at Welcome Baptist Church, Ander son. On Sunday evening, April 6, the young people of the Cross Hill church will present the pro gram. T. R. Fant will fill the pulpit on April 13 at 11 a.m. in the pastor’s absence. Rev. and Mrs. David Cramer, of near Lake City, worshipped at the First Baptist Church, Sun day morning and Rev. Cramer de livered the message that evening. Mrs. F. S. Cole is visiting friends and relatives in Colum bia. Miss Myrtle Black of Green wood visited in Cross Hill during the weekend. Recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. Weldon Leaman were Mr. and Mrs. Gene Shillinglaw and child ren of Rock Hill. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Hill, their daughter, Clara Bell and her fi ancee, Max Hitt of Union, spent a recent weekend in Sumter with Mrs. Hill’s sister, Mrs. Gladys Davis. Friends will be interested to know that Alec T. Brown of Orangeburg has been hospitalized in Columbia for surgery. Alvin Fagan of Joanna was in jured in an automobile wreck recently. Mrs. J. 0. Adair St. SCOUTS ORGANIZED A reorganizational meeting of Boy Scouts Troop 178 was held Sunday evening at Friendship A.M.E. Church. Mr. Fletcher Pruitt, institutional representa tive, presided. Scout troop mem bers, including 20 new ones, were also present. Mr. Audry B. Mc- Croskey Jr. spoke to the boys ind committeemen andpresented a film-strip dealingwith the aims of the organization. MR. BURNSIDE Mrs. James Burnside Sr., long-time resident of Clinton, is now shut in after several years of declining health. He wishes to be remembered by his many friends as he constantly thinks of them. Bailey Foundation Expands, Revises Program The Bailey Foundation has an nounced its expanded and revised Mercer Silas Bailey Memorial Scholarship Program. Seniors in high school who are sons or daughters of employees of Clin ton Mills or M. S. Bailey and Son Bankers, are urged to sub mit their individual scholarship applications by April 15. Twenty two 4-year scholar ships and nineteen interest free loans valued at over $120,000 have been awarded since the pro gram began in 1956. Fifteen of the 22 scholarship recipients have now graduated from South Carolina Colleges and Universi ties. The revisedprogram has been broadened to include accredited Junior and Business Colleges, Adult Education Courses, and State Technical Education Cen ters. Although the total number of farm workers has declined con tinuously in the past 50 years, the Department of Labor reports a growing shortage of the highly skilled individuals needed for the managerial and scientific posi tions created by today’s large, mechanized farms. MRS. HARLEY IMPROVED Mrs. Earnestine Harley, daughter of Mrs. Alice Shelle of Oak Street, Clinton, is now hospitalized in New York City Congressman In Joanna Congressman James R. Mann announced he would meet with constituents Tuesday, April 8, from 2 o’clock to 2:45 p.m. at the Joanna Post Office in Jo anna. During the week following Eas ter, Congressman Mann is taking advantage of the Congressional recess to visit as many cities and towns in the 4th Congress ional District as possible.
