STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA COUNTY OF LAURENS CITY OF CLINTON NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN That pursuant to a written Peti tion, signed by a majority of the freeholders of the City of Clinton, as shown by the tax books of said City, and heretofore pre sented to and filed with the City Council of said municipality, a SPECIAL ELECTION will be held in the CITY OF CLINTON, SOUTH CAROLINA, on TUESDAY, APRIL 15, 1969, for the purpose of submitting to the qualified electors of said Town the ques tion: Shall the City Council of the City of Clinton be empowered to issue and sell not exceed ing $240,000 of general obliga tion bonds of the City of Clin ton, the proceeds of which shall be used for the purpose of de fraying a part of the cost of constructing a new City Hall for Persons may vote for or a- gainst the proposal. The polling places for said Election shall be located at: Precinct Clinton No. 1 Clinton No. 2 Clinton Mill Polling Place City Hall National Guard Armory, South Broad Street Clinton Mills Community House The polls will be opened at 8:00 o'clock in the forenoon and will be closed at 7:00 o'clock in the afternoon on the date fixed for the Election. Appropriate boxes will be provided at the poll ing place for the casting of bal lots on said question. Managers of Election will be appointed by the Commissioners of Election for Laurens County. QUALIFICATIONS AS TO RESIDENCE: Every person of fering to vote must have resided in the State of South Carolina for one year, in the County of Laurens for six months, and in the City of Clinton for three months, all prior to April 15, 1969; PROVIDED, that ministers in charge of an organized church and teachers of public schools and the spouse of any such per son shall be entitled to vote after six months’ residence in the State of South Carolina, if otherwise qualified. 3. OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: Because of the provisions of Sec tion 13, Article II, of the Con stitution, in order to vote at said Election, all persons offering to vote must show that they have paid all taxes, State, County and Municipal for which they were liable for the previous year, at any time prior to the Election. The selection of these girls was through an essay con test which dealt with pertinent facts about their state, their county, their city, and their Camp Fire Girls organization. J. AA. Wham Is Officer In New Publishing Firm James M. Wham of Mountvllle is vice president of The News Leader Publishing Co. which will begin publication of a daily news paper in Anderson May 15. Wham is president of Wham Construction Co. in Anderson. A native of Mountville, be is a graduate of Mountville High School and is married to the former Elizabeth Goodman of Mountville. They have four children, Mary Louise, a freshman at Coker Col lege; Sammy, a junior at Er- skine; J. M. HONORED On Saturday evening Mrs. Alice Davenport and Mrs. Myrtle Crowe honored Mrs. Jack Mor gan, Jr. with a pink and blue shower. Friends met at the home of Mrs. Davenport on Magnolia St, Joanna. After a number of games and contests, Mrs. Morgan was pre sented a number of useful gifts. The house was decorated in spring flowers. The hostesses served ice cream, pound cake and punch. Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Evans and children are at the home of Mrs. Evans’ mother, Mrs. James Evans in Joanna. For the past nine months Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Evans have been in Alaska where Mr. Evans was in service. Flowers, Jr., a Pres byterian College senior from Bradenton, Fla., will present a paper at the spring meeting of the South Carolina Academy of Science, PC Chemistry Chairman K. Nolon Carter announced to day. Dr. Carter also said Flowers has just been awarded a covet ed University Scholarship by Vanderbilt University for grad uate study in chemistry after his May graduation from Presby terian College. The paper, to be given at the April 25-26 Academy of Science meeting at Clemson, is the re sult of research Flowers has been doing in collaboration with Dr. Carter. Its title is ‘The Appli cation of the Hydrasooe Rear rangement to Bensil Mono - and Dibyaraiones.” Available re cords indicate this may be the first time a PC student has pre sented or been the coauthor of a paper delivered before the Academy.
