The Laurens County Fine Arts Commission, in conjunction with the two Laurens County school districts, sponsored the concert which was attend ed by fifth and sixth graders. Rita Johnson On Dean's List WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.-Miss Rita Johnson of Clinton has been named to the Dean’s List at Sa lem College in Winston-Salem, N.C. Miss Johnson is a freshman at Salem College where she plans to major in English. She is a graduate of Clinton High School and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Olin C. Johnson of 600 Adair Street in Clinton. BY ANNE ASHLEY Q. How can I improvise a surface level when 1 want to make certain that a piece of furni ture or large appliance is stand ing level? A. Use an ordinary glass mea suring cup that has markings on both sides. If this cup is fill ed with water to any one of the marks, it will show that the sur face is level when the water contacts the marks on all sides. Q. What can I do about light scorch stains on linens? A. Sometimes the rubbing of a cut onion over these stains will solve this problem. Follow by soaking the linen in cold water, then laundering. Q. What is a quick and easy way to deal with pencil marks on wallpaper? A. Best and easiest is with an art-gum eraser. Q. How can I remove paint spatters from linoleum and hard- wood floors? A. A fine grade of steel wool is effective, even after the paint has partially hardened. Use a light pressure and short strokes, just enough to cover the affected area without dulling the finish of the surrounding area more than necessary. Then wax and polish the spot. Q. How can I clean stained kid gloves? A. Ordinary cleaning fluid will usually do a good job, but if none is at hand, you can use some cuticle remover. Q. How can I make a better job of repairing loosened legs on chairs or tables? A. By adding a small amount of sawdust to the glue you’re us ing. Holds better and lasts long er. Q. How can I make my own mucilage? A. By mixing equal parts of gum arabic and tragacanth, and dissolving this in hot water to the proper consistency. Q. How can I “set* the colors in garments? A. You can usually do a good job of this with table salt, al though epsom salts are better for washing and rinsing delicate ly colored fabrics. Dissolve a teaspoonful of the salts to each gallon of water. The most deli cate shades will not run or fade. Q. How can I clean a suede jacket? A. Best of all is professional treatment. But if you want to try it yourself, one method that is often effective consists of rub bing the suede thoroughly with a mixture of equal parts fuller’s earth and alum, then following with a good brushing. + * ♦ UF Board Meets Tuesday The Board of Directors of the United Fund of Greater Clinton Inc. will meet Tuesday, Febru ary 25, at 10 a.m. The meet ing will be held at Hotel Mary Musgrove with President Don G. Creighton presiding. James ' on Hollen, chairman of the nominating committee, will present a slate of officers for 1969-70. Seven directors for the three-year term - (1969-72) will tie elected by ballot from the nominees recommended by tlie members. The new year be gins March 1.
