Greenville last week.
Friends in Clinton were sorry
to hear of the death of Everett
Bennett in Baltimore, Md. His
mother was buried here several
weeks ago. He had a sister,
Mrs. L. L. Rice and several
nieces and nephews here.
Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Trammell
spent the weekend in Jack
sonville, Fla., with Mr. andMrs.
H. G. Brady and their daugh
ter-in-law, Mrs. Russell Tram
mell of El Cajon, Calif., who was
visiting her parents, the Brady’s.
Mr. and Mrs. William Stone and
family of Anderson were Sunday
night and Monday guest with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tram
mell.
Mrs. Addie B. Coleman and
Mrs. Linda Brewington and sons

Wassung Promoted
At Torrington
Robert B. Wassun b , manager of
the Clinton Bearings Plant of The
Torrington Company from 1960to
1968, has been promoted to the
post of asst, general manager of
the firm’s Bearings Division at
Torrington, Conn. While in Clin
ton, Mr. Wassung and his family
resided m Merrie Oaks.
Mr. Wassung liegan his career
with Torrington as an engineer
ing trainee in 1990 following grad
uation from Rensselaer Poly
technic Institute. He was named
asst, superintendent of one of the
firm’s three plants at Torrington
in 1996.
He left Clinton last year tote-
i uiit- general manufacturing
manager of the company’s Bear
ings Division at Torrington.

rather file early than pay the
estimated tax. When do I have
to send in my 1968 tax return?
A - The filing deadline for farm
ers who have not made an es
timated tax declaration return is
February 17. Be sure to attach
a schedule F to your form 1040
and pay in full any tax that
is due.
Q - I have a stock sale to re
port. What form do I use and
where can I get a copy?
A - Stock sales and other sales
or exchanges of property should
be reported on Schedule D. The
net profit or loss from these
sales should be entered on line
5, Part II of your from 1040.

Q- My refund was held up last
year. What can I do to avoid
the same thing happening this
year 0
A - File a complete, accurate
return and send it in early.
Refund claims filed now can tie
processed and the refund issued
in five to six weeks.
A major reason for refund de
lays last year was imeomplete
returns. Over one and one-
half million returns were re
ceived with a missing or an in
correct social security number.
Other common errors were fail
ure to sign the return and fail
ure to include W-2 statements.
Missing supplementary forms,
such as those to claim the sick
pay exclusion or a moving ex
pense deduction, also delayed
some refunds.
Q - My paycheck has been smal
ler the last few weeks. Have
taxes gone up?
A- The Social Security tax rate
for individuals increased from
4.4 per cent to 4.8 per cent
in January. This may account
for the increased withholding
from your paycheck.
q - A W-2 form came last
week for my son who is now in
the Navy. Does he have to file
a tax return?
A- Yes, he does if his income
was $600 or more last year.
However, if he is stationed over
seas, he has additional time to
file his return.
Taxpayers out of the country
have an automatic extension from
April 15 to June 16 to file 1968
returns. If your son is in Viet
nam, his return isn’t due until
180 days after he leaves that
area.
