WCTU Observe Special Day Millions of people around the world will observe Monday, Feb. 17 as Frances Willard Day. Miss Willard, a devout Methodist died on this date in 1898, after hav ing organized the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union in every state in the United States and in many foreign countries. A statue of her now stands in Statuary Hall in Washington, D.C. The local WCTV wiU place flow ers in the North Broad St. United Methodist Church (Hodges Hall) Sunday in her memory. V. J . 0 Tucker-Chalk Book Club Discusses Project The Actaeon Book Club held its first meeting of!969 with Mrs. Robert McLees at the Wilson home on January 3L Twelve members arrived at noon to enjoy a lovely luncheon. After luncheon, a short busi ness meeting was conducted, with Mrs. Robert Wysor presiding. Dues for the year were received by the treasurer. A plan for a worthwhile project for the year was discussed and will be taken up again at the February meet ing. Legion Auxiliary American Legion Auxiliary will meet with Mrs. Charles Buice on Tuesday, February 18 at 7:30 p.m. Assistant hostess are Mrs. R. P. Chapman, Mrs. J. L. Prather and Miss June Adair. Iris Garden Club The Iris Garden Club will meet on February 19 at the home of Mrs. Sidney Bonds. A program on roses wiU be given by Mrs. L 0. Ray. There will also be a “white elephant sale*. Bring something you make, bake or a “white elephant*. Mr. and Mrs. Clifton H. Tuck er of Joanna announce the en gagement of their daughter, Gin ger Gayle to A irman Bruce Wayne Chalk. Miss Tucker is a senior at Clinton High School. Airman Chalk is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas R. ChalkofJo- anna. He is a 1967 graduate of Clinton High School. He is cur rently serving with the United States Air Force stationed at Shaw AFB in Sumter. A June wedding is planned at th< Pentecostal Holiness Church in Joanna. Lee Chapter of the United Daughters of the Con federacy held its February meet ing at the Tom Hartness Home on Thornwell Orphanage Campus on Feb. 6, with Mrs. Henry Craig, Miss Agnes Davis, Mrs. T. C. Johnson, and Mrs. W. C. Bald win serving as hostesses. The Home was beautiful with arrangements of camellias inter spersed with cupids and lovely red and white Valentines, and lent itself effectively to the Valentine season. After a business session led by the president Miss Louise Kern, the Red Letter Day was reported on by Mrs. Esther Pitts. Mrs. Hugh Bond Workman gave the program on “Medicine During the Confederacy." The guests were then invited into the dining room where de lightful refreshments were served and a social hour was enjoyed. Lydia Church Women To Meet The Women of the Church of Lydia Presbyterian Church will meet on Thursday, Feb. 13 at 7:00 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Sidney Ayer at 44 Peachtree St. Bellview Baptist Church was the setting for the marriage of Miss Sarah Jane Benjamin to Brent Moody Friday at 5 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Charlton Duvall Benjamin Jr., of Bellview Com munity, parents of the bride, gave a reception in the social hall of the church. The Rev. J. B. Abercrombie officiated at the wedding, and his wife presented organ music. James E. Martin served as vocal soloist. Mr. Moody is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dwight L. Moody of Hwy. 76 to Columbia. His bro ther, Dwight L. Moody Jr., served him as best man. Ushers were William Johnson of Green ville and Gerald Rice. The bride appeared in a satin A-line dress with lace sleeves. She wore the gold and diamond locket, a family heirloom, handed down from her paternal grand mother, Mrs. D. C. Benjamin (Leah Martin). Attending the bride were Mrs. Bryan Alva Goodwin of Green ville and Miss Dianne Rice. They wore full-length dresses of red satin featuring short sleeves and white lace trimming. After a trip to Charleston the newlyweds will live near the bride’s parents. The bridegroom works for Standard Plywood Inc. Miss Bradford Weds Airman James Medlin Airman James Franklin Medlin married Miss Carolyn Dianne Bradford at Davidson Street Bap tist Church. The 2:30 p.m. ser vices were conducted by the Rev. Floyd Hellams. A reception was given in the social hall by the parents of the bride, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Bradford of 102 Caldwell St. A shoulder train of chapel length was attached to the bride’s satin Empire gown. Empire gowns of blue brocade were worn by the bridesmaids, both sisters of the bride, Miss Myra and Miss Cynthia Bradford. Miss Jamie Woody, flower girl, wore a long gown of light pink brocade. Robert Wilke, uncle of the groom, was best man. Ushering were George Wilkie, Freddie Tumblin, Francis Cooper and Harvey White. James Meadows, soloist, and Miss Ann Webb, organist, pro vided the music. After a honeymoon in the North Carolina mountains, the groom will return to Keesler AFB in Bi loxi, Miss., and Mrs. Medlin will make her home with his mo ther, Mrs. Doris Wilke Medlin of Walton Street.
