C„ January 16, 1969—1-B Lydia Mill News Rev. and Mrs. J.Roscoe Bryan and family were called to Edge- field on Wednesday evening be cause of the death of his step father, Mr. Carroll McCary. Funeral services were held in Edgefield, on Friday. Mrs. Yancy Eubanks of Union spent the weekend with her mo ther, Mrs. Lester Davis, who is ill at her home. Mrs. Lizzie Hawkins was a re cent guest of her brother, Harold Hawkins and family and also with her sisters, Mrs. Etta Hendricks and Mrs. Margie Boiter in Pel- zer. Miss Lamarr Hawkins of Nashville, . Ohio spent the past weekend here with her aunt, Mrs. Hawkins. Mr. and Mrs. Billy McGee ac companied her mother, Mrs. Sarah Snyder to Greenville Sun day where she entered the Gen eral Hospital for surgery this week. Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Berry and family of Fork Shoals visited her mother, Mrs. Fred BodieSunday. Miss Sue Word spent a few days recently with Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Austin in Red Springs, N.C. Miss Word, Mrs. David Word, Mrs. John Weir and Mrs. Marcell Barker were in Greer, Sunday for the funeral services of Mr. James Brannon a nephew of Mrs. Weir and cousin to the others. Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Parrish Jr., of Aiken and grandson, Dougy Cooper of N. Augusta visited Mr. and Mrs. Guy Parrish Sr. and Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Williams on Saturday. Visiting the Wil liams also were Mr. and Mrs. Edward Williams and daughters, Misses Polly and Angela. Cpl. Arthur Sanders has re turned to Ft Leonardwood, Mo., after spending a leave with his parents, Rev. and Mrs. M. J. Sanders. Mr. and Mrs. William Stone and family of Anderson spent Sun day with Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Trammell, Mrs. Stone’s parents. Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Cooper have visited her mother, Mrs. George Wade of Great Falls, at intervals at the Columbia Hos pital in Columbia where she has been quite ill, but is much im proved Francis Cocker visited his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Cooper and other relatives in Great Falls last week. Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Grant of Anderson visited his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. T. 0. Williams. Mrs. Jim Bailey is visiting her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bailey in Anderson. MRS. SANDERS HONORED Monday evening Mrs. Timmy Sanders was honored with a household shower in the Lydia Baptist Church social hall. Several games appropriate for brides and housekeeping were enjoyed by the ladies, afterwhich a salad plate with punch was served. Hostesses for the happy oc casion were Mesdames H. W. Williams, Jimmy South, Houston Ellis, Benny Tucker, Jimmy San ders and Clyde Trammell. The honoree, the former Mar sha Power of Clinton was pre sented a host of gifts for her new home. WOMAN’S CLUB TONIGHT Mrs. Sarah Snyder is a pa tient in the General Hospital in Greenville. BROTHERHOOD WORKER TO SPEAK Friday evening at 6:30 p.m., Mr. James Beacham, Royal Am bassador leader of the State Bro therhood Organization will be at the Lydia Baptist Church to lead in a discussion of R.A. work with the Lydia church R.A. leaders. Mr. Scott Dawkins is the Lydia Baptist Church R.A. director. Men of the other Clinton churches are invited to the dis cussion. BROTHERHOOD MEETS TUESDAY The Brotherhood of the Lydia Baptist Church will meet Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. and go to the County Home for a worship ser vice. BIRTHDAYS, ANNIVERSARIES Debbie Rice, Jerri Lynn Sat terfield, Ronald Stone and David Campbell will celebrate birth days Jan. 18. Jan. 20 birthdays will include, Jimmy Earl Gregory, Mrs. M. J. Sanders, Michelle Malpass, and Miss Sandra Carroll. Mrs. Bobby James and Mrs. Bill Nelson's birthdays will be Jan. 22. Retarded Children Association Meet Set For Jan. 19 South Carolina Association for Retarded Children Regional Vice-President Mrs. J. Ben Stone of Greenville has issued a call for the Region I meeting to be held January 19, 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Location for the one day ses sion is Martin’s Restaurant, Main Atlanta Highway in Westminister. Counties included in Region I are Greenville, Spartanburg, Oconee, Anderson, and Laurens and is open to the membership and general public. Parents of retarded children, whether mem bers of the Association or not, are urged to attend, y The morning session will fea ture an address by Miss Wilma Reich, ASCW, member of the South Carolina Association for Retarded Children Board of Di rectors. Topic of her discussion will be 'The Parent and the Men tally Retarded.” The afternoon session will con sist of a panel reaction on the morning session, plus considera tion of the proposedSCARC Com prehensive Plan for Mental Re tardation. Chapter Presidents are asked to bring their copy of the plan to the meeting. Foster, a director of Lions International from Falls River, Wisconsin, will address the Lions’ Third Annual Mid- Winter District Rally here at Presbyterian College Dining Hall Saturday at 7 p.m. The Clinton Lions Club is act ing as host club for the event which gets underway with a so cial hour at 5 p.m., followed by tours of the campus, art ex hibits, and other points of in terest. Dr. Marc C. Weersing will welcome the group to the college. The welcome to Clinton will be given by Mayor Lion Harry Lay- ton. Entertainment will be fur nished by student groups. All members of the Clinton Lions Club are expected to at tend along with their wives. This will take the place of the club’s first regular meeting inJanuary. Presbyterian Missionaries Speak Tonight The Rev. and Mrs. T. Rei- chardt Taylor, who work in the interior countries to the north west of Brazilia are scheduled to speak here tonight. Mr. and Mrs. Taylor are missionaries of the Presbyterian Church, U.S. They will tell about their experiences at the First Presbyterian Church at 7:30 p.m. Mr. Taylor describes his work as “evangelistic itineration in a large field, in addition to being the pastor of a growing, awaken ing local church." He travels widely but claims that the dif ficulty of negotiating bumpy roads “is more than offset by the joy of introducing Christ to new peo ple and seeking to lead congrega tions to a sincere full commit ment to Christ." Mrs. Taylor teaches English in a school in Goianesia, Goias. In addition to teaching, Mrs. Tay lor counsels members of the lo cal Presbyterian church in re gard to youth activities and wo men's work. She keeps busy also as a homemaker. Before going to Brazil in 1946, Mr. Taylor carried out mis sion endeavors in Etowah and Concord, Tenn., while Mrs. Tay lor taught school there. Mr. Taylor has an A.B. from the University of Florida and a B. D. from Columbia Theologi cal Seminary. Mrs. Taylor stud ied at RabunGap-Nacoochee Jun ior College and West Georgia College. Mr. and Mrs. Taylor have five daughters and one son. They are living in Greenville. South Carolina, during this furlough year. They expect to return to Brazil in the summer of 1969. WEEK OF JANUARY 13, 1944 Miss Peggy Copeland delight fully entertained a number of members of the high school set with a dinner party at her home on Friday evening. Mrs. Kenneth N. Baker will be hostess to member^ of the Cen tury Club on Tuesday afternoon at four o’clock at her home. In celebration of her seventh birthday, Rose Moore Nettles, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Nettles, entertained with a party Saturday afternoon. Mrs. J. D. Jacks of Brooklyn, N. Y. is the guest for several days of Mrs. J. B. Wilder. Mrs. J. C. Pace spent the week end in Columbia with Mr. Pace. Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Cox of Newberry were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Joel Cox.
