Women's World 2-A—THE CHRONICLE, Clinton, S. C„ January 16,1969 Hill-Hitt Engagement Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Benjamin Hill, Sr., of Cross Hill, announce the engagement of their daughter, Clara Isabella, to Joseph Max Hitt of Greer and Union. Miss Hill is a graduate of Cl in ton HighSchool and Winthrop Col lege. Mr. Hitt is a graduate of Fairforest High School and Er- skine College. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Laurence H. Hitt of Greer. Miss Hill and Mr. Hitt are doing graduate work at Western Carolina University and Con verse College, respectively. They are both members of the faculty at Union High School. The wedding will take place in the late fall. The M. S. Bailey Elementary parents and teachers met Tues day, Jan 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the school auditorium. President Talmadge Sanders introduced the guest speaker, Mr. R. P. Wilder, who in turn presented Mr. H. L. Shealy, prin cipal of Clinton Elementary School and Mr. Frazier Sanders, principal of Joanna Elementary •School. Mr. Shealy spoke on the PTA and Mr. Sanders spoke on the PTO, each giving the advantages of the organization they repre sented. After the presentations, during the business session, it was de cided that the organization would be known as the M. S. Bailey Elementary PTO. M. Educational Conference For B&PW Club The Ninth Annual Educational Conference of the S. C. Federa tion of Business and Profession al Women’s Clubs, Inc., will be held in Columbia at The Cap stone House, University of South Carolina, on January 25-26,1969, with the theme, *We Hold These Truths’'. This two-day educational con ference is presented by the Edu cational Foundation, S. C. Fed eration of Business and Pro fessional Women’s Clubs, Inc., with the assistance of the Ex tension Division, School of Gen eral Studies, University of S. C., and a grant from the Allstate Foundation. The S. C. BPW Foundation was established inJanuary 1962 solely for educational purposes; to re ceive and disburse funds for edu cational purposes; such as a- warding scholarships and con ducting educational conferences and seminars. The activities of the Founda tion are to jointly sponsor with the College of General Studies, University of S. C., an annual educational conference. This is designed to offer opportunities to men and women of South Carolina to further improve and develop their capabilities through lec tures and discussions on the eco nomic, social and psychological problems confronting business and professional people today. PTA Organized At Bailey School About People You Know Mr. and Mrs. Fuller Reese of Jacksonville, Fla., and their son. Bob Reese, who is stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas, visited her brother, Lykes S. Henderson and family and other relatives and friends during the past week. Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Staton of Spartanburg, former residents of Clinton, were called to Char lottesville January 7. Mrs. H. H. Harris of Columbia is a patient at Bailey Memorial Hospital. She is the mother of Mrs. Thomas E. Addison. Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Owens of Jacksonville Beach, Fla., and daughter, Miss June Owens of Swainsboro, Ga., visited his mo ther, Mrs. Mary Owens, who was a patient at Bailey Memorial Hos pital While here they were guests of his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Olon Shealy. Mrs. Owens is now convalescing at the home of her daughter on E. Fer guson Street. Mr. and Mrs. Herschel Thoma son are attending the Southeast ern Furniture Show in Atlanta this week. George Frady is a patient at Self Memorial Hospital, Green wood. J. B. Arnold, manager of Lydia Mills Store won a trip from Allison Irving and Zenith Corporation to the Super Bowl in Miami. Approximately40deal ers in North and South Carolina enjoyed last weekend at the Mar co Polo in Miami Beach. Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Bigbee spent the weekend with their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Gregg Link at Clemson. Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Scogins, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Scogins, Mrs. Jo Nell Franklin and Mrs. Judy Gentry attended the funeral of Miss Merle Scogins in Col bert, Ga., Sunday. Miss Eleanor Mahan of Char leston visited relatives here dur ing the weekend, coming especi ally to visit her grandmother, Mrs. A. A. Ramage, Sr., a pa tient at Bailey Memorial Hos pital. Mrs. Ramage is convalesc ing at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ramage. Jim Wolfe is a patient at Self Memorial Hospital inGreenwood, Sgt. and Mrs. Michael W. Bo land recently spent a week in Joanna with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Boland and other re latives and friends. Mrs. Boland left on Saturday December 28th to return to her home in High land, Calif. Sgt. Boland left on Sunday, December 29th for a tour of duty with the Air Force in Turkey. L. E. Cason is a medical pa tient at Self Memorial Hospital, in Greenwood. His room number is 222. General and Mrs. Ansel B. Legion Auxiliary To Meet The American Legion Auxil iary will meet Tuesday, January 21 at the home of Mrs. Ralph Patterson on Calvert Avenue in Pitts Meadows at 7:30 o’clock. A program on ‘‘Americanism” will be presented at which time a film “When I'm Old Enough-- Goodby” will be shown. Also a film on the National Legion Con vention held in Dallas, Texas will be presented. Co-hostesses will be Mrs. Hu bert Pitts, Mrs. Joe McGee and Miss Florrie Burdette. Mrs. Brown Hostess In continuation of a study of the short story, Mrs. C. B. Betts read “What’s a Man to Do”, by Katherine Ball at the Wednesday Club. The story, with the scene laid near the peach growing section of Hamlet N.C. described the total loss of a year’s crop by frost. Miss Ball, of Charleston, was a daughter of the late W. W. Ball originally from this county. Members of the club assembled at the home of Mrs. Marshall Brown on Cleveland Street Dur ing the afternoon refreshments were served which included apple candy from the state of Oregon and chocolates from VTenia, Aus tria. Benjamin-Moody Mr. and Mrs. Charlton Duvall Benjamin, Jr. of Route 1, Clin ton announce the engagement of their daughter Sarah Jane to Brent Moody. The wedding will take place February 7 at Bellview Baptist Church. Uelsmann, selected from the col lection of New York s Museum of Modern Art, will be on view in the Presbyterian College library from next Friday to February 1. The 38 photographs use mul tiple-printing and other dark room techniques shunnedby most contemporary photographers and are thus a challenge to the assumption that the photograph is defined in the artist’s eye at the moment the shutter is released. They were organized into a cir culating exhibition for showing in the United States and Canada. Uelsmann, associate professor of art at the University of Florida since 1960, received his bachelor of fine arts degree from Rochest er Institute of Technology and both his MS and MFA degrees from Indiana University. both attend Clinton HighSchool, where they are members of the Transportation Club. Mr. Moody is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dwight L. Moody of Route 2, Clinton, and is em ployed by Standard Plywood Com pany. All-Women Jury In Colonial history, impor tance is attached to the Ju dith Catchpole case because she was tried on a charge of murder before a jury of 11 women. This is the first re-’ corded instance of a jury composed entirely of women. Camp Fire Girls Guest of B&PW At the January 14 meeting of the Clinton Business and Pro fessional Women's Club, three Junior High Camp Fire Girls - Misses Rachel Fernell, Eleanor Pitts and Jerri Lynne Cooper - along with their guardian Mrs. Ray Fernell were the guests. Centering the supper table was an attractive arrangement in which Mrs. W. W. Harris had carried out the red, white and blue colors of the Camp Fires. Sung by the girls, the Camp Fire Girls' Blessing was used as the invocation. Following sup per, Mrs. Perry Moore, Personal Development Chairman, present ed Mrs. Paul Mueller, Director of the Clinton Council of Camp Fire Girls. Mrs. Mueller gave interesting information about the organization of the Camp Fire Girls and displayed the cere monial dress which may be earned by the junior high group. Then Mrs. Mueller introduced Mrs. Fernell, who told of some of the activities and projects planned and sponsored by her jun ior high girls. Then Misses Fer nell, Pitts and Cooper told the aims of the Camp Fire Girls. Following the program, Mrs. M. C. Poole, club president, presided at a business session where policy items to govern the club were unanimously ac cepted. Following the business, Mrs. Grace Connor led the read ing of the club collect.
