Primitive freshwater por
poises are known to feed on a
variety of soft and hard-bodied
fishes in their native waters of
the Amazon. At Mar ineland of
Florida these primitive speci
mens are fed the same diet of
herring and blue runner as their
bottlenose cousins.
Commit your way to the
Lord.— (Psalms 37:5).
We know the many things
that require our time and at
tention. We know what we
would like to see adjusted and
harmonized. We know what
seems to be out of order. With
His Spirit working in and
through us to bless all that con
cerns us, we will bring forth
the right answers in order to
establish a good and orderly
life for all those whose lives
touch our own.
County Receives
$21,242 Shore
Of Forest Fund
Laurens County this year will
receive $21,242.00 as its share
of receipts from National Forest
operations during the past year.
District Ranger Bob Williams
said federal law provides that
counties with National Forest
land receive 25 percentof the re
ceipts from Forest activities.
This money is to be used for
county schools and roads. The
amount of money each county re
ceives is based on the number of
acres of National Forest in the
county.
National Forest timber sales
provide the largest part of these
receipts in most S. C. counties.
Besides this dollar return to the
county each year other Forest
resources such as recreation,
watershed protection and wildlife
provide all Americans and es
pecially local residents with
many benefits.
Two such benefits not often
measured in dollars is the a-
vailability of approximately
160,000 acres of public land for
free hunting with the purchase
of a State Hunting License. Ano
ther is the use of the picnic ing
and camping facilities of eight
developed recreation areas. All
of these are within a two-hour
drive from Clinton.
During molting, or shedding of
its inflexible shell, the blue crab
becomes completely defenseless.
In its temporary “soft shell’
state the crab is considered a de
licacy by all its enemies, in
cluding man, say biologists at
Marineland of Florida.
