Smith and Mike and Ronnie visited Mrs. Smith parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Holland over the weekend. * * * Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie S. McMillian on Saturday was John R. Osborne of Washington, D.C. * * * Mr. andMrs. EdwardCampbell and children have returned from a visit with her brother-in-law and sister, the Rev. and Mrs. John Stanley in Lexington, Va. They also visited in Jamestown and Williamsburg, Va., and in Washington, D. C., where they visited relatives. * * * John T. Lay has joined the Greenville Technical Education Center’s staff as head of gui dance, counseling and admis sions. He received a B.A. degree from Erskine College and aM.A. in counseling from the University of Alabama. He was formerly with Ware Shoals High School as a guidance counselor, coach, and previously was athletic director of the Ware Shoals Community Foundation. He is married to the former Sandra Ray, daughter of Mrs. Davis V. Pitts and the late Mr. Dudley Ray. * * * Mr. andMrs. ThurstonR. Giles have returned from a visit with their children, Mr. and Mrs. Adrian Giles, in Memphis, Term., and Charles T. Giles in Terre Haute, Ind. * * * Sgt. and Mrs. Johnny Tucker of Camp Vent Hill, Va., have returned home following a visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Davidson. They also vaca tioned at Myrtle Beach several days last week, accompanied by Miss Jean Davidson and Mike Johnson. * * * Mrs. B. F. Wingard is con valescing at the Baptist Hospital, Columbia, following surgery. Stephens are visiting their grand- moter, Mrs. J. R. Stephens in Canton, N.C. * * * Sergeant Barringer F. (Binky) Wingard, Jr., graduate ofClinton High School, Class of 1965, de parted from Columbia August 10th for two weeks field training at Ft. McClellan, Alabama, where he is a member of Class 20, Palmetto Military Academy, the South Carolina Army National Guard Officer Candidate School. He isthe son of Brigadier General and Mrs. B. F. Wingard of 203 West Walnut Street. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Stall- worth and children of Richmond, Va., were overnight guests Fri day of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Reed and other friends. They were enroute to Rock Hill for the wedding of Mrs. Stallworth’s bro ther, Robert Hopkins which took place Saturday evening. The Stallworth’s daughter, Ann, re mained with the Reeds. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Joe Holland and children and Susan Campbell spent several days last week vacationing in Jacksonville, Fla., and visiting Mrs. Holland’s bro ther and sisters, Phillip Pruitt, Mr. and Mrs. Lou Oliver and Mr. and Mrs. John Mimbs. * * * Miss Biba Hiers is spend ing several days at Pawley’s Is land as a guest of the Robert Vances. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Bob Hanson and family recently vacationed at Garden City Beach. * * * Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Hatton and family visited friends in Virginia over the weekend. * * * Mrs. Bill Dupre of Abbeville is visiting her aunt, Mrs. Morgan Todd. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Shook and children spent several days in Atlanta last week visiting Six Flags Over Georgia and Stone Mountain. Mrs. S. W. Sumerel accompanied them and vacationed at Stone Mountainwith her daugh ter Virginia Sumerel. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sherrill had as their guests this week, Mrs. Sherrill’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Newburn of Sarasota, Fla. The Sherrills spent the weekend at Lake Murray visit ing friends. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Mauldin and daughter, Anita with Mrs. W. R. Gambrell accompanied Barry Wayne Mauldin to the Greenville- Spartanburg Airport on Saturday where he flew by whisper-jet to Torrington, Conn, for a weeks visit with Miss Susie Wassung and family, theRobert Wassungs. They are former residents of Clinton. He will return on Sat urday and Monday he will enter Clemson University as a member of the freshman class. * * * Mr. F. M. Boland and Frank spent Sunday in Atlanta, Ga. where they attended the Atlanta Braves - St. Louis Cardinals game. * * * other Clinton folks attending the Braves games included L. H. Davidson and Will, J. M. Bodie, Terry Swyvert and Johnny Jen kins. Mrs. Earl Pitts and children and Mrs. Bob Plaxico and child ren spent the weekend at Myrtle Beach. + * * Miss Lillian Hart is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Hart. * * * Mrs. Barbara Hellams and daughter are visiting friends in Panama City. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Jim Von Ih lien have as their guests, Mrs. Von Hollen’s parents and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Griffin of Hunt ington, W. Va. and Miss Keefer of Bloomsburg, V. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mar vin Stewart and son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Snelgrove. He is with his family on Young Dr. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hugh Austin and Kristin of Red Springs, N.C. visited Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Edwins. * * * Farl McElhannon has returned home from Greenville General Hospital where he had under gone surgery. * * * Mrs. H. K. Covington of Rich mond, Va. and Miss Florence Blakely of Durham, N.C. were weekend guests of Miss Iona Blakely, J. Aldine Blakely and other relatives. * * * Dr. and Mrs. G. A. Burton and daughter, Ann, of Rome, N.C. and Mrs. Austin Nealy of Pickens were recent guests of Dr. Burton’s mother, Mrs. G.A. Burton. * * * Dr. Marshall Brown, co-ordi- nator of the S.C. Commission on Higher Education Facilities, was in Denver six days last week for a conference with co-ordinators in 49 other states and with offi cials from Washington, D.C. * * * GOP Officials At Open House Mr. and Mrs. Murray Adams will host an open house Tuesday with state Republican candidates and officials as their featured guests. U. S. Sen. Strom Thurmond, senatorial candidate Marshall Parker, former state GOP chair man Drake Edens and W. D. (Bill) Workman, editor of The State newspaper, will be special guests, according to Mrs. Adams. The open house at 309 Bailey St. is scheduled from 7 until 9 p.m. Tuesday and the public is invited. Mrs. W. C.Shealy has returned from a visit with her sister, Mrs. B. W. Gibson and Mr. Gib son in New Zion. * * * Lou and Gary Stephens, sons of Dr. and Mrs. Louis M. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Dow were in Atlanta several days last week where they met their daughter, Mrs. Dana Kastory, and grand daughter, Kelley of Winter Park, Flori|Ja. Mrs. Pitts burial in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Funeral services for Mrs. Kate Hargrove Pitts were held Wed nesday at Broad Street Methodist Church with burial in Rosemont Cemetery. Mrs. Pitts, wife of Sterling A. Pitts, Sr. of 408 E. Florida St., died early Tuesday in a local hospital after a week’s illness. A daughter of the late Joseph C. and Emma Abrams Hargrove, whe was former postmaster in Whitmire and bookkeeper for Clinton Oil Mill and ToddWhnle- sale Co. She was a member of Broad St. Methodist Church, the WSCS and Susanna Wesley Bible Class. Other survivors include a son, Sterling A.
