where the insured may borrow
money from his life insurance
company, using his policy for
collateral or he may stop paying
premiums and continue insurance
protection on a modified basis
or receive a cash settlement for
the complete termination f the
contract.
Straight life or ordinary life
usually has the lowest premium
rate f any lifetime policy.
Premiums are payable until
death. It is among the most widely
used and a good all-purpose
policy which meets many dif
ferent needs and family sit
uations.

policy enables aperson toaccu-

become available to him on a
future date named in the policy,

it will be paid to his benefic
iary. The purpose of such a policy
is to guarantee having a certain
amount of money available when
your children are ready for
college or for some Yher finan
cial need such as retirement.
There are many different life
insurance p licies which are
available. The insurance agent
is very helpful in assisting you
in determining the letter policy

BY M. L. OUT/
COUNTY AGENT
Spring planting was well under
way until the rain canm last
week. Most of the corn has been
planted and is up to a good stand.
Cotton was being planted with
machines running at top speed.
Gardens have t>een planted and
most of them are up to a good
stand. Soylieans have yet to tie
planted.
The rain came and brought
machines to a grinding halt. It
was badly needed. Grain, es
pecially, had tie gun t suffer.
Pastures had l>een fertilized in
many rases, since the last rain’
and were needing a drink. Much
of the land had been prepared and
needed a rain to settle the soil.
Yes sir! This rain is in keep
ing with the pretty spring we have
had throughout our area.
It now seems that peach grow-
ors have only an over-supply to
worry about. At least, so far.
1 realize a hail storm can dis
rupt things in a few minutes and
destroy the crop completely. I’m
talking about up to now. So keep
your fingers crossed and get
ready to freeze, can, and eat a
lot of good juicy peaches this
summer.
LAWN PROBLEMS
It seems that everybody is
having lawn problems this spring.

is limited the premium is higher

However, this policy builds
for sure, lawns are prettier than
ever. This is caused by the fact
that more fertilizer is used,
better’varieties of grasses, along
with lietter management prac
tices. A pretty lawn increases
the value of a home greatly.
Laurens County farmers plant
ed about two tons of registered
serala lespedeza. A great deal
has already l>een sown and is
up to a stand. About 30 farmers
are trying the new plant. Acre
age is from one up to twelve.
Mallette Wham has twelve acres
and will lie the largest grower
this year. All of the acreage
will tie eligible for certification.
Serala should give Laurens
County cattlemen a new source
of forage. This new improved
variety of sericea should give us
a boost for hay as well as graz
ing. Sericea had advantages in-
as-mucti it is easily seeded. It
does well on poor soil. Goodness
yes! We have plenty of that.
There is one thing we must under
stand and that is that sericea
has certain peculiarities and we
must learn to take the advant
age of those to get the best
results. Sericea does not re
quire nitrogen and that is perhaps
the greatest advantage. It is a
cheaper growing plant. Those who
do not have any of this new plant
will want to take a look at some
grown by neighbors.
