Christmas. Remember, for
the freshest trees to be had,
look first for the red or white

South Carolina trees are no*

The IRS Southeast Region,

H. M. McLeod, District Dir

Direct filing of returns will

McLeod emphasized that
direct filing will in no way

This is an'exercise in pure logic. Ready?
If you didn’t hqve a phono, you couldn’t
make calfs.
If you couldn’t make calls, you’d have to
write letters.
If. you had to write letters, you’d lose
a lot of time.
If you lost a lot of time, you’d never get
your work done.
If you never got your work done, you wouldn’t
get paid.
If you didn’t get paid, you couldn’t eat.
If you didn’t eat, you couldn’t live.
So when people say they couldn’t live without
a phone, you’d better believe it.
Now for some applied logic. When your phone is out of
order—which we hope doesn’t happen often—-there’s no
reason why you shouldn’t call 833-0116. There’s never an
extra charge for Telephone Repair Service.
Wti HELP TO LIFT THE BAMBOO CURTAIN . . . In the
Beil System’s over seas office in Oakland, California, an
Operator keeps a special telephone circuit open for an hour
every day. It’s the only contact the United States has with
Red China. ,
Exciting things like this are always happening in our over
seas offices. Overseas operators handle thousands of calls
in an average day—for businessmen, travele s. and service
men and their families. Some calls zip through in min
utes, even to hard-to-reach places. Others, such as trying
U) locate a serviceman, may take days. But, wherever you
call you can be sure an overseas operator is doing her
best to see that your call goes through.
HERE’S A SWITCH! We heard recently about a man who
was hospitalized during a spell of very cold and stormy
weather, with snowdrifts piled high. . Many of his friends
were elderly and couldn’t come to visit him. And there was
no phone in his room.
But, in the hospital corridor, there was a convenient pay
phone. Since he was up and round, he decided to use it to
keep in touch with his friends. They were surprised anc^
pleased to hear how well he was doing and to enjoy a visit
by phone. Isn’t It wonderful how an unexpected ohom, call
dan brighten the day at both ends of the Jin* 1
