Christi, Tex., made his first
solo flight in the T2A “Buck
eye” jet trainer \tfhile under
going flight training with
Training Squadron Nine at
the Naval Auxiliary Air Sta
tion in Meridian, Miss.
His squadicn is a basic
flight training squadron and
uses the “Buckeye” for train
ing future Navy and Marine
Corps pilots in basic flight,
instrument flying and forma
tion flying.
Glover Graduates
Marine Private John N.
Glover, son of Mr. and Mrs.
John S. Glover of Calvert
Ave., Clinton, was graduated
from the Marine Officer Can
didate Course at Qualftlca,
Va., and commissioned to his
present rank.
Each fall and spring groups
consisting of college gradu
ates, enlisted Marines, and
other qualified officer per
sonnel are trained through
the 10-week course which
stresses academic, physical
and leadership training.

the Aviation Electronic
School at the Naval Techni
cal Training Center, Mem

During the 19-week course
he was introduced to basic
electronics fundamentals. The
curricilum included basic
radar, alternating current,
tube, receiver and transmit
ter theory.
Prior to attending this
school he was graduated
from the two-week aviation
familiarization school.
Foster Graduates
Seaman Recruit Gerald R.
Foster, USN, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Paul E. Foster of
306 Bailey St., Clinton, S. C.,
has been graduated from nine
weeks of Navy basic training
at the Naval Training Cen
ter in San Diego, Calif.
In the first weeks of his
naval service he studied mili
tary subjects and lived and
worked under conditions sim
ilar to those he will encount
er on his first ship or at bis
first shore station.

Guy C. Reed, 303 Kitson St.
has been promoted to super
intendent of spinning and
Henry E. Sprouse Jr., Rose-
mont Dr., has been promoted
to superintendent of carding,
Group Mgr. E. W. Roberts
said.
Reed, an employee of
Greenwood Mills since 1952,
had been supervisor of spin
ning, first shift, for Green
wood Plant No. 5.
Sprouse, an employee of
Greenwood Mills since 1945,
had been supervisor of card
ing and spinning, second
shift, at Greenwood Plant No.
4.
MISHAPS AT HOME
NEW YORK — Deaths in
home accidents in the United
States increased 5.4 per cent
from 28,000 in 1965 to 29,500
in 1966, according to the In
surance Information institute.
JV CHEERLEADERS — The girls

through an undefeated season and
