PC Battles Indians
In Annual Classic
On the basis of records
and comparative scores,
Pfesbyterian College should
be heavily favored Thursday
when the Blue Hose travel
to Newberry for the tradi
tional Thanksgiving Day be
tween the Bronze Derby
rivals.
But records and such don’t
mean much when the Blue
Hose and Indians get to
gether. It’s that kind of rival
ry.
PC takes a 4-4-1 record in-j
to the game and Newberry!
has a 1-7-1 mark. Newberry’s |
lone win came over Freder-1
i
ick (23-15), a team which
tied PC 0-0 in a Virginia
hurricane in the first game
of the season. Newberry’s tie
(15-15) was with Catawba,
which PC beat 21-14 in a
thriller.
Newberry’s losses have
been to Appalachian (21-12);
Lenoir Rhyne (54-6); Wof
ford (14-10); Jacksonville
State (35-6): Guilford (51-69;
Elon (24-0); and Western
Carolina (35-0fr - In compari
son, PC has beaten Lenoir
Rhyne 26-9); Wofford (20-7);
and Western Carolina, 10-0,
last week. PC lost to Ap-

palachian (57-18); Guilford
(25-20); and Elon (21-20).
PC’s other loss was to Da
vidson (38-0), which New
berry didn’t play.
Six seniors will be playing
their final game for PC.
They are end Richard Munn,
centers Mickey Hampshire
and Mel Davis, tackles Eddie
Walker and Tommy Camp
bell and back Gene Robbins.
The series stands at 33-18
in favor of PC and Coach
Cally Gault has a 3-1 record
against Newberry. The In
dians’ last win in the series
was in 1965, in an upset
against a heavily favored PC
team.

Title Game
About 4,000 fans saw Winns-
boro defeat Travelers Rest
27-19 last Friday for the up

ship on the Clinton High
School field.
Winnsboro was nursing a

ute of play when Winnsboro
quarterback Ed Ellenburg
broke loose for a 57-yard
scoring run.
Both teams went into the
game undefeated and Winns
boro Thursday will play Low
er Richland for the state
championship. Lower Rich
land, which tied Clinton 27-27
early in the season, defeated
Wade Hampton 33-20 Friday
to advance to the champion
ship game.
In other playoff games,
Easley bombed previously un
beaten Woodruff 31-13 to win
the upper state class AA

Crabtree has some open dates
to fill on the schedule.
Discussing the players’
transition from football to
basketball, Coach Crabtree
commented, “Our first week
was spent on trying to get
from one end of the court to
the other without anybody
making a tackle or throwing
a block.”

fairly good shooters.”
