Snobbish Rebive 4 V: ^ ^ Needs The Light THK CLINTON CHRONICLE Bj SALLY SHAW ’ DEAR SALLY: My hus band's widowed' mother seems headed for a marriage With a construction foreman Who is far below her social tank. Her former husband Was buite a prominent man in our city, and if this new romance of hers does bud in to marriage, it will surely hurt her social standing and embarrass us all. Of course, this new man of hers does make good money and is quite personable, but he’s al so very rough in manner and speech, and completely out of her class. She seems alto gether oblivious to this and vert much in love with him. Is mere anything at all we can do to make her see the light? CONCERNED. DEAR CONCERNED: You and those who think in the Same snobbish way as you are the ones who need a little light! This is entirely your mother-in-law’s business, and her decision to make .. .so, keep out of it! DEAR SALLY: I’m a busi nessman who recently hired the 21-year-old son of a very good friend of mine to work in my office, but despite all my efforts to give this boy every consideration because of my affection for his fath er, he’s no good at all — in efficient, lazy, and he even takes time for lunch, and goofing off whenever he feels like it. How can I handle this ticklish little problem with- put hurting his father? BOSS MAN. DEAR BOSS MAN: Ex plain frankly to your friend what his son is doing, and if he really is a friend worthy of the name he’ll surely un derstand you cannot be ex pected to pay out a godo-sriN should ;dear sally By SALLY SHAW right in the charge him. world to dlsH DEAR SALLY: Five mont ago I married a widower, very fine man, and I would the happiest woman in the world except for his habit always of referring to former wife as “my wife.” realize he was married to hei for ten years, and very hai pily, but after all she has been dead for four y4ars anc now I’m his wife. Don’t yc think he should be more cor siderate of my feelings anc refer to her as “my former wife”? MRS. X DEAR MRS. X: I realize this is a delicate little situa tion to handle without giving the impression that you arc jealous of another woman’s memory. But maybe, wher ever he makes a reference of this kind, you can remind him| ever go gentty .that YOU arc his wife. : .and If you persist in this—without any show of rancor—maybe in time he’ll get the point. DEAR SALLY:< I’m a girl| of 15. I love my mother verj much, and I love to talk wit her, but the big trouble is that whenever I tell her confiden-j tial things that I think she should keep to herself si goes and discusses them witl other people —my aunts and| cousins and family friends- and pretty soon everyone knows everything about mj personal business. Do yoi think this is fair? BINNY. DEAR BINNY: No. Have little heart-to-heart talk withl Mom, and let her know she if jeopardizing a very sacrec thing — her - daughter’s confi- ary for nothing. He should Science and, trust, and that un- have this out with his son, less she does something about and if this doesn’t work, then this, you just cannot tell her certainly you have every everything in the future.
