Question — How can I
clean leather nphoistery?
*
Answer—Use saddle soap,
which is obtainable in shoe
repair shops. Or you can use
thick suds made with pure
white soap flakes. Squeeze
your sponge or cleaning
cloth as dry as you can in
order not to get the leather
too wet. Rinse off the soap
solution with a clean, damp
cloth. Let the leather dry.
then polish it with a soft,
dry cloth.
Question—What can I do
when clothing has left lint
on a freshly-varnished sur
face that has not fully
hardened?
Answer—Rub with a cloth
moistened with turpentine or
mineral spirits, and follow
with furniture polish.
Question — How can I
prevent a dark ring from
forming around the yolk
of a hard-boiled egg?
Answer — By boiling the
egg no longer than fifteen
minutes, then placing it in
cold water.
Question — How can I
deal with a couple of dis- .
figuring scratches on the
enameled surface of a
door?
\ '
Answer—Best for these is
some of the original enamel,
dipped into the scratches
with a toothpick. After it
dries, rub down with rotten-
stone. An easier treatment
involves the filling of the
area with a wax crayon
matching the enamel color,
followed by a wax polishing.
Question—What can I do
h • about candy stains on
clothing?
Answer—All candy stains,
except chocolate, will yield
to hot water. For chocolate,
use cleaning fluid—or perox
ide if the fabric is white.
One complete section of my
new book is devoted to the
removal of all kinds of
stains.
Question — How can I
prevent paraffin from sep
arating from the jelly
glass?
Answer—If the paraffin is
too hot. it will tend to sep-
arete from the glass later.
Heat it slowly and carefully,
and don’t allow it to reach
the smoking stage.
Question—What can I do
about butter that has tak
en on the flavor of some
thing else in my refrigera
tor?
Answer — Soak the butter
for a couple of hours in cold
w’ater in which a pinch of bi
carbonate of soda has been
dissolved. This should re
store the proper taste to
your butter.
Question — How can I
freshen the atmosphere in
a musty - smelling base
ment?
Answer — One effective
treatment consits of the
spraying of unslaked lime
on the basement walls. This
has the effect of freshening
■not only the basement itself,
but also the entire house.
Question—How can I re
move shoe leather stains
from light-colored hose?
Answer — A tablespoon of
borax added to your wash
ing water should help con
siderably.
Question—How can I re
stiffen a very limp and
hard to-use tape measure?
Answer—By placing it be
tween two sheets of waxed
paper, then pressing lightly
over with a medium-warm
iron.

To The Editor
The Clinton Chronicle
This is an open letter to the
reunion committee of Clinton
High School, Class of 1942.
I want to say ‘thank you’
for making it possible for me
tp have a wonderful day with
our former classmates and
teachers of ole Clinton Hi.
It was truly a heart-warming
experience for me.
I am sure life was made a
little sweeeter for all who at
tended our twenty-fifth reun
ion at the Mary Musgrove
Hotel on August 12, 1967.
To the ones who could have
attended and did not, they
will never know just what
they missed.
