r Clinton, 8. C., Thursday, August-17,1967 THE CLINTON CHRONICLE V TIMELY TIPS By County and Home Afents SMALL GRAIN VARIE TIES: Wheat — Andnox, Co ker’s 47-27, Coker’s 61-19, Georgia 1123, Khox 62, Ander son. Oats — Bruce, Coker’s 242, Moregrain, Sumter, Sum ter 3, for forage production— Arlington 23 is recommended. Barley—Early Marconee, Ga- Jet, and Rogers. Rye—Elbon, Gator, Wren’s 'Abruzzi. CLEANING SUPPLIES CARRY-ALL — A coft drink carton makes an excellent carry-all for assorted clean ing supplies. Carry such things as your furniture pol ish, window clfeaner, spray for the dust mop, upholstery and rug cleaner, as well as a clean cloth or two. APHIDS ON PEAS: Aphids have been observed on peas recently. Apply a dust con taining 2 per cent diazinon, 4 per cent malathion, or 4 per cent naled. Apply an even, light coating of dust at the rate of one ounce per 50 feet of row or 125 square feet. Force it through the foliage so it reaches both sides of the leaves. Apply dust when the air is still. GIFT WRAP PAPER IN CUT-EDGED BOX: Keep gift wrap paper in an empty cut- edged box that wax paper or foil came in. You’ll be able to pull out the exact amount you need and cut it off easily. FEEDER PIGS: The de mand is good for high qual ity, healthy feeder pigs and most buyers prefer to buy pigs weighing 50 to 70 pounds Whether you handle feeder pigs on concrete or the ground, do not rush them on feed, as this can cause scour ing or enteritis. You can hand-feed a few pigs or feed a bulky ration to a large group. The feed should con tain at least 100 grams of an antibiotic to each ton of feed. If your pigs have lice, dust or spray with Malathion, Me- thxyclor or Lindane. Be sure to follow the directions on containers. If pigs have scours or respiratory infec tion use pura-mycin. Feed pigs a complete ration, until they weigh 75 pounds. After this weight they can be fed shelled corn supplement sep arately. However, hogs fed a complete mixed ration gain faster and more uniformly than those fed separate ra tions. Generally speaking, fur niture is a “blind article.” This means that it is really next to impassible for the average person to be able to judge actual quality of furniture just by looking at it. So what is the best thing, for Mr. and Mrs. Furniture Buyer to do? The only an s w e r is to shop with a reliable mer chant. Years ago; automobile salesmen would tell their pros- p'ects all about the wheel base, gear ratio and other technical aspects of cars until they realized that the public goes by the established reputation of the manufacturer and the dealer. Thc same goes for television and radio sets. And the same thing is true in the furniture line. Your reputable furniture dealer or decorator will never handle inferior qual ity merchandise just in or der to meet or beat compe tition. If you have confi dence in your dealer you must also have confidence in the fact that he brings you the best values that are obtainable, and he does this for a very selfish rea son: He wants to both sell and keep his customers. These customers keep him in business and he knows that if he fools them he is fooling himself. You may be sure that the materials in our furniture, and the construction of the furniture — those “unseen” factors—are of high qual ity at our store. MAXWELL BROTHERS FURNITURE IN C L I N- TON has maintained its good name by handling good quality merchandise at the lowest possible price since 1938 so this should be proof enough we are sin cere in our business inten tions. Of course it is im possible to please EVERY ONE but we do make an honest effort. * lace cage silhouette which featured an Empire bodice* p a tricia scalloped sleeves and hem Beach cousin of the groom, cia.Vwashing bearer, trimmed in squiens.
