There is some misunder
standing about the way to file
a claim Under medicare for
payment of doctors’ bills^ ac
cording to officials of the
Greenwood Social Security Of
fice. The two ways in Which
'medical insurance payments
can be made are by ‘‘assign-
ment,” or by payment to the
patient.
,lf the patient and his doc
tor wish, payment can be
made directly to the physi
cian. The patient completes
Part 1 of the request for pay
ment form and the doctor
completes Part II, accepting
an assignment. If the doctor
does not wish to take an as
signment, the patient can pay
the bill and payment will be
made directly to him. If this
methods is used, the patient
should ask his doctor to com
plete Part II of the Request
for Payment form or get an
itemized receipted bill to send
with the claim. Under both
methods the bill should show
the dates of treatment, the
type 'of treatment, and how
much was paid.
To insure prompt payment
of a claim, advises Miss
Pressly, the Request for Pay
ment form should be careful
ly checked before mailing. All
questions on Part I must be
8:45 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Mon
day through Friday and from
9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on
Saturday*,*- .
completed. If Part II is not
completed, then itemized re
ceipted bills must be attached.
The patient should make cer-,
tain that these bills show his
r.ame and number as they are Q'SHields III Thailand
shown on his medicare card.
Miss Pressly also said that
anyone wishing Request for
Payment forms may obtain
them by writing or calling the
Greenwood Social Security
Office. The number is OR
3-1711. Office hours are from
U. S. Air Forces, Thailand—
Airman First Class John E.
O’Shields, son of Mr. and
Mrs. William E. O’Shields of
128 Tillman Circle, Joanna,
is on duty as a postal
specialist at Nakhon Phanom
Royal Thai AFB, Thailand.
One of five U. S.,Air Force
personnel in the beae’s post
office, the ainpan helps dis-'
perse over 19 tons of incom-*
ing mail each month through-,
out Northern Thailand bales.-
The airman, a 1961 gradu
ate of Clinton high
school, entered the Air Force,
in January, 1962.
