He was awarded a trip to the state contest in Clemson to be held on July 20. Farm equipment dealers provided equipment for the contest. David, a rising soph omore at Laurens High School and a four-year 4-H son of Mr. and Mrs. Brock fnember, is the 15-year-old Coggins of Route 1. Mrs. Myrtle Crowe is in Charleston with Mr. and Mrs. Huelan Howard. Jean Suber of Whitmire, was a guest of Kay Chouse Thursday night. Mrs. Earje Johnson and Mrs. Bessie Johnson were in Greenwood one day last week. Mrs. David Pitts, Jr., of Clemson University, spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. D^yid Pitts, Sr. Sallie Pitts of Atlanta, G$.> was at home with her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. David Pitts, a few days last week. Houp- fear, Rt. 2, Clinton, is spend ing a leave with his parents before reporting for duty at Kadena Air Force Base, Oki nawa, for an assignment of 18 months. Upon his recent departure from Sheppard Air Force Base. Texas, where he served as flight leader of his squadron, his parents received a letter from his commander, Lt, Ga ry W. Seelmeyer, stating that Airman Haupfear “has dis tinguished himself in a man ner which is creditable to both himself and the Air Force,” and enclosed a letter of appreciation he had writ ten to Airman Haupfear. It stated: “1 I would like to express my thanks to you for the fine job you did for the 3753d Stu dent Squadron as Flight Lead er. I realize that this requir ed considerable effort in addi tion to your school work, and your initiative is fully appre ciated. Having served in this position, you will start your career with a better insight into Air Force operations and the responsibilities of leader ship. “2. You served as Flight Leader for 49 technical school students, directly supervising teir training. Ycur efforts to discipline these men had a definite influence on the qual- tiy of their training. Mrs. C. R. Cunningham and Miss Frances Cunningham left Thursday to visit mK and Mrs. Ray. Shubert at Davis- ville, R. I. Mrs. Helen Hollingsworth has been spending several weeks with relatives at Orange Park, Fla. Jimmy Adair, Terry lusti, Kathryn Mitchell and Dianne Edmunds are attending Jun ior Camp at Camp Fellow ship this week. Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Cole spent Sunday with their daughter at Belton. Mrs. Jim Hugh Austin, Sr., Miss Mackie Austin, Mr- and Mrs. Jim Hugh Austin, Jr. and little daughter of Ware Shoals spent last Sunday with relatives at Lake Murray. Rev. W. F. Mitchell and Farnklin Mitchell visited rel atives at Edgmoor and Rock Hill during the weekend and attended a family reunion on Sunday.
