Read Psalm 32; Luke 15:11-24
“Father, I have sinned against heaven and before
you.” (Luke 15:18, RSV)
In this age of affluence and accomplishment, we are beset
with many unsolved problems. As individuals and groups,
we have sought answers from leaders in various fields of
study, such as sociology, economics, education, and political
science.
However, the answers we get are confused and perplexing.
In every field of thought, the objective thinkers are distressed
that the myths of power and progress have proved to be
deceitful. And when we turn to examine ourselves, we feel
like crying out to God, “Father, I have sinned.”
Redeemed sinners are those whom the Father has forgiven
after they have prepared for the indwelling of His spirit by
confessing their sins. Humility of spirit prepares our hearts
for the inflowing of God’s love, light and power.
We exemplify our faith when we pray, “Father, I have
sinned.” It is a confession of sin and also a confession of
faith in God as revealed in Christ, and our relation to Him
as our Redeemer and Companion.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, may we not worship our knowl
edge and power and achievements in the things
temporal. Help us to put first Thy kingdom and
Thy righteousness. Teach us to walk humbly with
Thee; through Christ our Lord. Amen.
