April 18 at Broati Street Me
thodist Church. At this meet
ing Ronald Burnside was
elected president of the coun

L. B. (BiN) Hughes
Lawrence B. (kill) Hughes,
63, of Woodruff, was dead on
arrival at Baildy Memorial
Hospital in Clinton late Fri
day after a sudden illness.
He had been cdnfined in the
city jail since noout 6 p.m.,
when, near midiight, Paul
Quinton, jailer ofl duty at the
time, noted thit something
was wrong and called a po
lice car which whs on patrol.
The officers then called an
ambulance and took Hughes
to the hospital, Where he was
pronounced dead on arrival.
A coronary thrombosis was
given as the caiise of death,
it was stated.
Native of Spartanburg, son
pf the late Albert and Mamie
Johnson flughes, he was a re
tired textile wdrloer.
Surviving are a sistefr, Mrs.
Irjs Hallett of Cherlton, Va.,
and four brothers, Ar t h u r

Hughes of Athens, Ga., and
Cble L. Hughes of San Die;
