'1 tWbViv/.wX What’s a nice-looking car like you doing in a Volkswagen ad? Nobody made a mistake. That shapely car is the new Volkswagen Fastback. It's in this VW ad because it’s a VW. IWe haven't made very many yet, so you prob ably haven’t even seen one yet. Thai’s why we're running this ad in the first place.l The Fastback isn't a VW in name only.- it's O' Volkswagen through and through. The engine is air-cooled so it has no use for water or antifreeze. And it’s in the back to make the going easy when the weather isn’t. The Fastback is airtight, like all Volkswagen?, because it's made in the same plant by the same •people. Naturally, there are differences, too. The Fastback engine is a little more powerful (the car will cruise at better than 80). It holds 5 nicely. It has disc brakes in frofft. The upholstery is (for us) kind of jazzy. If you've steered clear of o Volkswagen be cause itwasn't big enough orgood-looking enough or expensive enough, you may be forced into think ing it all through again. Sorry. - Leroy Cannon Motors, Inc. South Church Street Extension Greenville, S. C. 2Hb0S authokijig ofoirn really mind pacing for their own safety. Mr. McNamara stated, “if the United States spends bil lions of dollars on this type of system and Russia spends just as much on the same type of system, then the United States and the Soviet Rus sians are still equal in the arms race and neither the United States or Russia is any more equal, safer, or secure to spend so much money on than before. I se6 no reason a useless system when we al ready have enough missiles to literally destroy Russia.” We, the government classes at Clinton High, disagree with the Defense Departments statement. It is true that if the U. S. and Russia built the same type type of system, around its cities both would be equal, but if onljx^one na tion, such as Russia, buihds anti - 1CBM system the arms' race will be very unequal, in’ Russia’s favor. .-I ft is reported that Russia has part of its system in op eration. around Moscow and it will not be long until oth er cities are completely pro tected by more of-Russia mis siles. ‘ When s Russia’s system is completeand in full operation they will want a new treaty to ban the building of this type of missile system and the United States will be so, oh so, happy tp hear this and will make and sign the treaty. Yes there will be a treaty and there will be a Russian defense system-in that order. The United States will have the neatly written treaty and Russia will have the nice, shi ny missiles, capable of des troying every major city in the United States. The leaders in Washington should stop selling us out to our enemies and start build ing the United States in de fense so that we would be more powerful than any other notion on the face of the earth.
