His promotion was based on

itary appearance and his
knowledge of selected military
subjects.
His battalian, a unit of the
First Marine Division, per
forms search and destroy mis
sions against the enemy, and
pursues a constant effort to
win the people to the side of
the legitimate government of
South Vietnam.

Airman Bell Awarded Medal
Airman First Class Barney B. Bell, whose parents are
Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Holder of M2 Sloan St., Clinton, is
decorated with the U. S. Air Force Airman’s Medal at
Da Nang AB, Vietnam, for heroism at the voluntary risk
of his life. \
On August 28,-1966, when an F-4C Phantom II crashed
on takeoff due to mechanical failure, the airman helped
rescue the two pilots from they: burning aircraft and as
sisted them to a helicopter for' evacuation to the base
hospital. . ►
Airman Bell, a fireman, is a member of the Pacific
Air Forces, America’s overseas air arm in Southeast
Asia’, the Far E^st and Pacific. The airman attended
Honea Path High School and cotnpleted requirements for
his high school diploma after entering the Air Force. His
wife, Betty, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Starks
of North Uttie Rock, Ark.
