THE WORLD’S MOST WIDELY US 1 !) DEVOTIONAL GUIDE
There shall come forth a rod out of the stem
of Jesse, and a Branch shall .grow out of his roots.
(Isaiah 11:1)
One day early in December, I visited a store in Van
couver and saw that the whole place was gay with Christ
mas decorations. The sight Was a delight to the eyes.
Everywhere attractive gifts were on display, and salespeo
ple were serving the many shoppers who thronged around
the counters.
An air of expectancy hung over everything. We - were
waiting for what? We were preparing for whom? I thought
of the numerous gifts to be wrapped, ; the greeting chrds to
be written, and the many .tasks to be done before Christ
mas.
But there was one thing more important than all these.
Would we be ready to receive the greatest gift of all on
Christmas •'morning — the Christ child? Were our hearts
being made ready that the King df all the world might find
us fit for His abode in us? ...
•How empty our lives, and poor our Christmas, if Jesus
Christ should pass us by because we are not prepared to
receive Him!
PRAYER
O gentle Christ, whose coming to this earth
brought heaven to Thy people, prepare us in these
days that we ftiay receive the greatest gift of all,
Thy presence in our hearts. In Thy name we re
quest this gift. Amen.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
There is no preparation so important as that which
makes us ready to meet Jesus this Christmas.
