Electronic Farm Account
Record Keeping is now avail
able to farmers in South Caro
line through the Farm Bu
reau. The State Farm Bureau
has employed a full-time rep
resentative to contact farm
ers and assist them in record
keeping. This ^sprvice comes
through the Farm Bureau with
Clemson University cooperat
ing.
Farmers must submit
monthly listing of expenses
and receipts and general farm
production information. From
this a monthly and an annual
summary of the financial rec
ords will be prepared and re
turned to the farmer. This
will provide him with summa
ry information for completing
tax returns, and a detailed ac
counting of all financial trans
actions as a permanent rec
ord for tax audit purposes. De-
taled accounting is also avail
able for each enterprise such
as dairy, beef, etc.
■*
ding anniversary January 16.
Mrs. Harold Rollins observ
ed her birthday January 13.
James Lyda will celebrate
his birthday January 14.
The cost of this program
to the farmer will vary ac
cording to the size of the
farming operation. This is a
very detailed and comprehen
sive method of putting the
cold facts on the dotted line.
Tom Nolan, Clemson Farm
Management Specialist, says
that a great many farms in
South Carolina should be on
this system. He also feels
that the cost of the record
keeping system .could very
^easily be taken care of through
savings in income tax ‘and
from overcharged bills.
It was brought out in one
meeting that I attended that
the program in one state had
paid for itself out of money
saved the farmer from over
charged bills, jpiis, of course,
would not apply to our state,,
but it could very well be sav
ed in income tax, and, of
course, in better management
practices.
This system, of course, is
available for the larger farm
ers who make farming a bus
iness. It will cost depending
on the number of workers em
ployed and the number of en
terprises on the farm. We
have a number of farms that
should be on this system as
I am sure it would increase
their efficiency by having a
complete account reviewing
strong and weak points.
As I mentioned, the Farm
Bureau has a full-time field
man who will contact and set
up this system with anyone
interested. For more informa
tion, contact my office or the
Farm Bureau.
