304 customers per day in
each tavern, and that 53%
of these customers imbibed
enough alcohol during each
tavern visit to impair safe
driving.
It was pointed out further
that liquor-by-the-drink means
more social pressure on
young people, and more crime
among all ages.
Furthermore, it was noted
that package states, like
South Carolina, have an av
erage of 2,711 alcoholics per
100,000 population, whereas
in states where liquor is sold
by the drink the average of
alcoholics is 4,110 per 100,-
000. This most definitely
means more family prob
lems, more accidents on our
highways, and greater costs
to our con munity.
For these reasons the Asso-
.ciation expressed itself as be
ing unalterably opposed td 1
the proposed amendment.

Read Colossians 3:12-17
Put on the new nature, created after the likeness
of God in true righteousness and holiness.
(Ephesians 4:24. RSV)
Nowadays one often hears the use of the term “public
[image.” Public relations departments are granted ever-in-
| creasing budgets to develop the proper image. Business is
[very much concerned. Even countries want to create a fa-
[vorable impression overseas. It is a matter of constant ef-
[fort.
Everyone, however, would agree that if a favorable public
I image is to last, there must be a direct relationship between
[the image and the quality of the product. For example,
[when the quality of a manufactured article declines, the pub-
[lic immediately registers a complaint and the sales drop.
As Christians, we are commissioned to be faithful ambas-
Isadors of Christ. When we within the church fail to live up
■to the demands of our faith, those outside the church soon
■realize that there is too little relation between us and the
lideals we profess. Representing Christ is a challenge which
■demands that in thought, word, and deed, we portray His
^likeness. It demands that we constantly probe our conscience
and measure ourselves by His teachings.
PRAYER
Help us, O God, to avoid hypocrisy as we dedi
cate ourselves to Thee and and to Thy purpose for
ns. Give us the power to accomplish the task
Thou hast assigned us. In the name of Christ
Amen.
