4-H’er Mary Moore Makes
Prize Winning Peach Pie
Everyone likes peahe pie
— and Mary Moore reaHy
knows how to bake a good
one. Mary has won several
blue ribbons for her peach
pies. She attended State 4-H
Club last week at Clemson
where she competed in the
peach pie baking contest—
and, sure enough, she came
back with another blue rib
bon.
Mary is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Moore
of Mountville and is a mem
ber of the County-Wide Sen
ior 4-H Club.
Here is a simple recipe for
this delicious peach pie:
Peach Pie
1 cup sugar
tsp. salt
2 tbsp. Sour
8 peaches, sliced
1 recipe plain pastry
' Sift dry ingredients togeth
er and mix with peaches. Line
pie pan with pastry, fill with
peach mixture and cover with
top crust. Bake at 450 de
grees for 15 minutes. Reduce
temperature to 350 degrees
and bake 35 minutes.
Plain Pastry
2 cups sifted flpur

tsp. salt
2-3 cup shortening
4 to 6 tbsp. cold water
Sift flour and salt together
and cut in shortening with
pastry blender. Add water,
untH mixture will hold togeth
er. Divide dough into two
parts. Roll out on floured
board to desired size.
Frozen Treat
For those of us who do not
want a product as rich as ice
cream, here is another cool
refreshing treat.
2 quarts milk
1 1-3 cups instant non-fat dry
milk
IVfe cups sugar
1 cup white corn syrup
1 pkg. vanilla pudding
2 cups finely diced peaches
(add 1 cup sugar to peaches)
Prepare peaches before
hand so that the sugar will
be completely dissolved by the
juice. Blend vanilla pudding
into 1 quart of milk and heat
until it begins to thicken.
Then add the syrup and the
balance of the milk. Add the
dry milk last. Cod before-
freezing.
These ingredients can be
mixed cold if instant vanilla
pudding is used. Put in 4-
quart freezer. Add ice and
salt. When it begins to hard
en, opeii freezer and add pre
pared peaches. Continue
freezing until stiff.

FHA Loans Exceed
The year ending July 1, re
veals an increase in supervis
ed credit service to rural peo
ple by the local Farmers
Home Administration Office.
John Patterson, local FHA
Supervisor, reports that loans
totaling $569,080 were made
to a record of 79 rural Lau
rens County residents.
Included in these loans
were 51 loans to purchase
or build homes and to pur
chase farm land. 1 Also, 28
loans were made to rural fam
ilies as production type loans
and Economic Opportunity
loans.
At present, over 290 rural
Laurens County residents are
receiving FHA assistance for
an increase of approximately
IWe since July 30, 1965.
Patterson points out that
the repayment record of the
farm famflies is one they can
take pride in. This is especial-
