Active In Shady Grove Club
Maxine Spivey is one of the most active mem
bers of the Shady Grove 4-H Club. She may be
petite but that doesn’t mean that she can’t get
just as much done as anyone else. Maxine is 13
years old and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.
H. Spivey of Route 2, Clinton.
In the picture above Maxine is doing a -demon
stration on making watermelon rind pickle. She is
carrying four projects this year which include
child care, foods and nutrition, food preservation,
and safety.

Brownlee Grigg, 46, wife of
Alvin J. Grigg of 103 E.
Hampton St., died early Sun
day afternoon at a local^hos-
pital after several months of

Native of Laurens County,
daughter of Mrs. Josephine
Cramer Brownlee of Laurens
and the late W. T. Brownlee,
:he was an employe of the
John Graham store in Lau-
ens for a number of years
and was a member of the
First Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to her
mother and husband are four
laughters, Mrs. Dan M.
Steadman of Laurens and
Vtiss Darlene Grigg, Miss
Sharon Grigg and Miss Kathy
Grigg of the home; a brother,
E. P. Brownlee of Greenville;
a sister, Mrs. Rossie Franks
of Laurens; and a grandchild.
Funeral services were con
ducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. at
Kennedy Mortuary by Dr.
Robert S. Cooper. Burial was
in the Laurens County Me
mory Gardens.

Miss Alice Baldwin has
been named as investigator
in the Spartanburg area for
the U. S. Labor Department’s
Wage and Hour and Public
Contracts Division. She form
erly served in the Rock Hill
area.
Miss Baldwin, daughter of
the late Mr. and Mrs. W. P.
Baldwin, is a native of Clin
ton, and is a graduate of the
University of South Carolina.

Hugh Thompson Jones, 75,
of Mountville, died Wednes
day, June 29, at 7:30 a. m.
after a brief illness.
Native of Mountville, son of
the late H. L. and Nancy
Coleman Jones, he was a
farmer and member of the
Mountville Presbyterian Ch
urch. He was a veteran of
World War I.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs.
Fay Bryson Jones; two dau
ghters, Miss Elizabeth Jones
of Mountville and Mrs. J. A.
Pratt of Waynesboro, Va.;
two sons, William H. Jones
of Charleston and J. Eddie
Jones of Loris; a brother, L.
G. Jones of Mountville; a sis
ter, Mrs. G. W. Copeland of
Clinton; and a grandchild.
Funeral services were con
ducted Thursday at 4 p. m.
at Mountville Presbyterian
Church by Rev. Paul W. Fitz-
stevens. Burial was in the
church cemetery.
