THE WORLDS MOST WIDELY USED DEVOTIONAL GUIDE
Mr. and Mrs. Cox
Going to Japan
As Missionaries
Read I John 3:1-10
“Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become
like children, you will never enter the kingdom
of heaven.” (Matthew 18:3, RSV)
Mr. and Mrs. George K.
Cox have been appointed
missionaries to Japan by the
Southern Baptist Foreign
Mission Board.
Mrs. Cox, the former Miss
Annette Young of Newberry,
attended Newberry College,
the University of Louisville,
Austin Peaty State College,
Clarksville, Tenn., and grad
uated cum laude from Car-
son-Newman College, Jeffer
son, Tenn.
Following graduation from
Clinton High School fit 1948,
h e attended Presbyterian
college and graduated from
Southern Baptist Theological
Seminary in Lousvlle, Ky.,
and cum laude from Carson-
Newman College. He joined
a Bible study group in the
Navy and began thinking
about becoming a missionary.
He spent Chrstmas, 1952,
in Hong Kong and said he
saw the spiritual poverty
which existed htere. He told
the board that at this point
he promised God that he
would become a missionary
if He would provide the op
portunity.
They have been living in
Tazewell, Va., where Mr.
Cox has been pastor of Fair-
castle Baptist Church for two
years.
They are among 23 career
missionaries appointed and
two missionary accessories
employed by the Foreign
Mission Board.
The person who has reached maturity is not likely to
consider and rightly so, that his thoughts and actions should
be like those of a child. We would be childish were we to do
so. Paul said, "When 1 became a man. I put away childish
things.”
The point which Jesus seeks to shqw to us is that we are
God’s children. He does not say that we should give up our
mature status as men and women. The thought and direc
tion our Lord gives us is that God is our Father, and that He
would have us always love and serve Him with the faith and
love like that of a little child.
When the disciples rebuked those who were bringing lit
tle children to Jesus, He said, "Whosever shall not receive
the Kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter there*
in.” By this He is saying that we should make our hearts as
loving and trusting toward Him as is the heart of a child.
PRAYER
Our heavenly Father, we are thankful that we
can pray and call Thee our Father. May we real
ize in our hearts that we can make known to Thee
all our thoughts and desires and become as trust
ing as a little child in our faith; through Christ
