Lee on Tuesday afternoon for the March meeting. Mrs'. James Macdonald, president, introduced the guest speaker, Julian Bolick. He discussed his forthcoming book on Laurerts County. Following the program re freshments were served by the hostess. ' Mother-Daughter Lunch and Bridge Mrs. J. M. Dick and her daughter, Miss Lana Cope land Dick, entertained last Wednesday at noon with lunch and bridge party at their home on Hickory Street. Upon arrival tallies were chosen and guests seated ac cordingly at the three tables arranged in the living room and den. Lunch was served followed with several progression of bridge. Mrs. Hugh Jacobs and Mrs. Gary Lehn were prize 1 winners. Arrangements of spring flo wers added to the charm of the lovely new home. Mrs. Fuller Has Bridge Party, . . Bridge club members and additional guests were enter tained last Tuesday afternoon by Mrs. Raisa M. Fuller at her home on York Street. Spring flowers added to the ■loveliness of the home where five tables were arranged for play in the living room. Amid progressions of jbridge, the hostess served a 'salad plate with cold drinks. Mrs. Cally Gault was club | prize winner for high score and Mrs. George Cornelson, guest high score winner. Mrs. Tommy Stallworth received the consolation prize. Mrs. Charles (New of Spar tanburg, who was visiting her sister, Mrs. ii^gh Jacobs, was among guests present. McCown And Hay Rites Set Spartanburg — Mr. and Mrs. Crayton McCown of McMillin Street announce the engagement of their daughter, Virginia Sue, to Lewis Holding Hay, III, whose parents live at Wad- malaw Island. The wedding is planned for June 25 at the First Presbyterian Church in Spartanburg. Miss McCown, a graduate of Spartanburg High School, will reefeive a B. A. degree in Fr.eheb from Coker Col lege in’ June. She is presi dent of the Student Govern ment Association and is the May queen. Main St. 833-2101 Miss Martha Murray Addi son became the bride of Ned Andrew Handback in the First Presbyterian Church of Clinton at high noon March. 25. Dr. William Redd Turner, assisted by Rev. Alfred Blxler, officiated at the dou ble ring ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas £1- dred Addison of Clinton, and the granddaughter of Mrs. Hubbard Harry Harris of Co lumbia. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Rufy us Andrew Handback of Clin ton, and the grdhdson of Mrs. Fate Handback and Mrs. J. E. Braswell, both of Clinton. For, -the ceremony, the churtfh was decorated with massed arrangements of magnolias and a single large arrangement of white snap dragons, tulips, starburst and pom poms at the altar. Mrs. James Von Hollen, or ganist, and John Richards McCrae, baritone, of Spar tanburg, gave a program of wedding music. Serving as senior ushers were George MUrphy Hugu- ley of Clinton; John Wells Todd, III, and Putsy Bailey Williams, both of Laurens; and George N. Dunlap of Rock Hill. Ushers were Thomas El- dred Addison, Jr., brother of the bride, and Donald Ed ward Handback, brother of the bridegroom, both of Clin ton; James Templeton Addi son, Jr., of Joanna, the bride’s cousin; Thomas White Copeland, Robert Coch ran Hamer and Charles Ma rion Huey, all of Clinton; Benjamin Mariry of Fortson and Atehsn, Ga., and Har grove Bowles, HI, of Greens boro, N. C., and Athens. Rufus Andrew Handback was his son’s best man. MiSs Mary Jafie Addison, sister, of the bride, was maid of honor, and bridesmaids wire Misses Rita Chandler of Columbia, Lucy Hart of Pen sacola, Fla., Barbara Ann Seignious of Kingstree, and Mrs. Hartrove Bowles, III, of Athens, ail Converse College classmates of the bride; and Misses Ami Addison of Joan na, cousin of the bride, and Corihne Boyd of Clinton. The bride’s attendants were dressed alike in long ivory brocade dresses in a tulip design made with low round necklines and short sleeves. They also wore head dresses of matching illusion and brocade bows and car ried nosegay bouquets of ivy and tuberoses'. Given in marriage by her father, the bride * wore her mother’s wedding gown of iv ory satin made with import ed lace embroidered leg ’o mutton short sleeves, bodice buttoned from a high bowed neckline to the waist with tiny .satin buttbns^^ahd^ja full skirt with long cathedral train. Her fulll length veil of imported Brussels lace over illusion belonging to her mother, was caught to her hair, and she carried a nose gay of ivy, stephqnotis and phaelanopsis orchids. The bride also wore a gold cam eo locket, a wedding present from her paternal great grandfather to his bride, and worn by the bride’s mother at her wedding. Mrs. Addison was dressed in a costume suit of pink silk worn with pink accessories and a tri-toned pink maline hat. The bridegroom’s moth er, Mrs. Handback, wore a pale green silk costume suit, matching maline and straw hat, and green accessories. Both had orchid corsages. Following the ceremony, the parents of the bride en tertained at a reception at Lakeside C o u nt r y Club. Receiving - were the bridal couple, their attendants, and their parents assisted by Mr. and Mrs. John Addison, Mr. and Mrs. James Addison, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Hart, Mr. and Mrs. George Huguley, Mrs. David Cook, Mrs. James S. Gray, Mr. and Mr*. Francis Blalock, Mrs. Gary Dillard, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Crock er, Mr. and Mrs. David Rob erts and Mr. and Mrs. Rich ard Swetenburg. Placed about the canopy- covered deck of the country club were greens interspers ed with topiary trees in large cache pots. A fountain bank ed with willow, bamboo and fresh spring flowers was a fo cal point along with the re freshment table centered with a mixed bouquet of yel low and white snapdragons. Luncheon was served in side from a buffet table cen tered with a silver epergne arranged with white snap dragons, sunburst pom poms, gypsophilia flanked by silver candelabra holding Crystal finials and epergnettes. Side tables held an assortment of sweets. Gold candle sconces with nosegays of spring flowers were used around the dining room walls, and on the sun porch, where there was dancing to the music of Dave Ramsey and his orches tra of Atlanta, Ga., wrought iron wall brackets holding pots of miked spring flowfers wert used. Covering the bride’s table in the living room was an embroidered linen cloth with insertions of lace. Silver can- celbra having epergnettes filled with white snowdrift pom poms and gypsophilia were used with the three-tier ed wedding cake. Assisting in serving on the sun deck were Dr. and Mrs. R. M. Fuller, Dr. and Mrs. James L. Walker, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Alexander, Mrs. Robert S. Hamer, Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Jacobs, Dr. and Mrs. George Blalock, Miss Elaine Addison, Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Turner, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Jacobs, Julian Bolick, Miss Beverly McGee, and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Sease of Columbia, Mr. and Mrs. F. Moorehead re ceived at the home of the bride on Hickory Street. During the afternoon, Mr. and Mrs. Handback left on their wedding trip to Sea Island, Ga., the bride-chang ing to a fibranne three-piece suit of tangerine and navy, white straw hat trimmed in a navy and tangerine band, and navy accessories. She wore a white orchid corsage. They will be at home after April 1 in Athens, Ga. * Mrs. Handback was gradu ated froth Clinton High School and Converse College where she majored in soci ology. She holds a position as reading supervisor with the Madisop County, Ga., schools. . ■ * • The bridegroom is a grad uate of Clinton High School and Georgia Military Col lege. George Huguley complimeht- ed bride-elect, Miss Murray Addison and her wedding ht- tendants and guests with, a luncheon last Thursday ,at one-thirty o’clock at the Cefcil Wilson Home on Ansel Drive. Chilled juice was served as guests assembled. Small tables were used for lunch with guests’ places marked with dainty place cards tied with miniature wedding bells and white satin bows. To each individu al’s place, a love poem adorned with satin ribbon was found. The bride-elect’s place was marked with a glamellia corsage. The lovely buffet table was covered with an off-white lace cover over yellow satin centered with a silver ep ergne of spring flowets. Each of the smaller tables held arrangements of garden bouquets.- Among f guests present oth er than the wedding attertd- ants were the bride-elect’s mother, Mrs. Thomas Addi son, and grandmother, Mrs. H. The bride and groom-elects were seated at places mark ed with a nosegay corsage and boutonniere. ’ REHEARSAL PARTY Immediately following the wedding rehearsal, Mr. and Mrs. John Wells, HI, and Mr. and Mrs. Putsy Bailey Williams from Laurens, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Pick- nett Hamer complimented the wedding party and guests with a dance at the Lakeside Country Club. , Dainty, party refreshments and punch were served for the occasion. Miss Digby Is Honored In Greer Miss Marguerite Anne Dig by of Lancaster, bride-elect of Edward Holland Pitts of Columbia and Clinton, was honored with a tea last Satur day afternoon by Mrs. David Donald Drummond, Mrs. Ralph Waldo Johnson and Mrs. William Stowe Harrill at the home Of Mrs. Drum mond on the Gibbes Shoals Road, Greer. 4 Miss Digby was given an orchid corsage which was a compliment to her gold bro cade silk dress. Miss Harrill greeted the guests at the door and direct ed them into the living room. In the receiving line were Mrs. Drummond, Miss Digby and her mother, Mrs. Walter Hunt Digby, Mrs. Pascal Mark Pitts, mother of Mr. Pitts, and Mrs. Johnson. Mrs. O. T. The bride 4s the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Pace of this city, and the groom is the son of Mrs. Frank HollirigsWorth and the late Mr. Hollingsworth of Green wood. The young cbuple will make their home at 315 Rey nolds Street in Greenwood. Mr. Roper of Laurens To Wed Loris—Mr. and Mrs. Jos eph Delton King announce the ehgagement of their / daughter, Judith Anne, to David Burns Roper, Jr,, whose parents live at 506 Farley AVenue in Laurens. Miss King, a graduate of Loris High School,, attends * Columbia Hospital nursing school. Mr. Roper attended Fur man University after being graduated from Laurens High School. He is majoring in business administration at the University of South Caro lina and is in the junior ex ecutive development pro gram of Belk’s Department „ Store in Columbia. They plan to be married May 28 at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church in Colum bia. Birthray Party For Susie Keller In honor of her birthday, oh March 21st. Susie Kei ler and several friends were complimented with a bowling party at the Palmetto Recrea tion Center. The girls all bowled a game and were served refresh ments.
