A. Whip up a solution of
one part chlorinated laundry
bleach and lo parts of water.
Keep this* in an old iodine
bottle or mercurochrome bot

mercial eradicator. And in

A. By mixing linseed oil
and sifted whiting to the
proper, usable consistency.

draWer knob that persists in
turning and loosening?
A. You can keep this knob
securely in place with a bit
of steel wool shaped into a
thin washer. Slip this over
the bolt, between the knob
and the door, front of the
drawer,, and it will provide
just enongh friction to pre
vent the knob from turning.
Q. How can I make lighter
biscuits?.
A. Add just enough liquid
to make a sofe dough. Then
mix it lightly, and just enough
to combine the flour and
liquid. Any handling after
that has a tendency to tough
en the dough.
Q. How can I remove burnt
spots from granite?
A. Cover these spots with
a teaspoonful of baking soda
mixed to a paste with water
and heated. Never attempt
to scrape with a knife!
Q. How can I make an
easier and more efficient job
of cutting carpets?
A. Turn the underside of
the carpet up, and use a
sharp knife or razor blade to
sever the cords. Then, as a
guide for making a straight
cut, keep the blade of your
knife or razor between two
parallel filler or warp
strands.
Q. What can I do when my
apple or cherry pies begin
to boil over while baking?
A. Take a half-slice of white
bread and soak it in hot
water for a minute. Then
squeeze out most of the wa
ter and press the bread
firmly on the juicy places on
your pies. Then when the pie
is done, remove the slice of
bread.
Q. How can I remove
grease stains from wallpaper?
* A. Try applying a paste
composed of fuller’s earth
and water, allowing this to
dry on overnight, then brush
ing lightly off In the morning.
Q. How can I remove stains
from my mattresses?
A. Place the mattresses in
the sun, covering the stained
areas with a thick paste of
starch and cold water. After
an hour or so, or when the
paste has dried, rub or brush
off. Most of the stains should
have vanished, but if they’re
still too apparent,' repeat tho
routine.
