The Greenwood sale will be held Thursday, September 16 and the Spartanburg sale Friday, Sept ember 17. I believe these sales are the place to market cattle. The cattle are grouped in large lots and the feed lot buyers bid on tne cattle as each pen is brought through the ring. Grand Champion Holstein and Ayrshire along with the Re serve Champion Guernsey were from Laurens County. The champion Ayrshire be longed to Bruce Simpson of Cross Hill. Bruce, following in his bro ther’s foot steps, did a fine Job. The usual fine showing by Paul Watt brought high honors and Grand Champion to the black and white cow, the Holstein.. Jimmy Smith was a standout. Jimmy is from ThornweU. He mid his registered Guernsey traveled the road to victory. As a result of his hard work in fit ting and showing, he will receive an all expense paid trip to the show of all shows, the Interna tional Livestock Exposition at Chicago. There he will see the finest dairy cattle in the world, the top beef, hogs, sheep, and horses. This is a show that all outstanding cattle breeders would like to attend. Congratula tions to Jimmy for a Job wall done. Other 4-H’ers from Laurens County showing dairy calves were: Charles Bryant and Bar bara Bryant of Ware Shoals; Vic kie Mitchell and Gerald Mitchell of Ware Shoals along with John ny Simpson also of Ware Shoals;* also Arthur Belcher and Jack Marlar of Greenpond. The above boys and girls were showing Ayr shire cattle. The Guernsey breed was shown by the following ThornweU boys: Edward Elkins, Pete Belcher, Mickle Wickham, and Lloyd Reams. The Senior Champion was shown by Arthur Belcher. The Holstein breed was repre- sentated by Pam Watt, David Coggins, Ronald Avinger, and Gerald MitcheU. Jack Marlar did a fine Job with his herd of Jerseys. Congra tulations to aU the boys and girls for the fine job. Sammy Wham, a student at Clemson, spent the week-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Wham. Veterans Agency Asks Beneficoiries • Not To Correspond Laurens County Service Offi cer Howard H. Watkins caUs attention to a buUentin issued regarding the recently enacted law pertaining to the increase of Social Security payments. Because of the inersase, it will be necessary for the Vet erans Administration to make some adjustments in pension awards to veterans and wid ows and DIC awards to pa rents, bulletin states. This wiU be done automati cally by VA and information concerning recipt of the So cial Security adjustment check or increase in monthly pay ments need not be forwarded to the VA by veterans or ser vice officers. Correspondence in individual caaes will merely increase the VA workload and serve no use ful purpose, it was stated. Ben eficiaries affected will be fully Informed . It ia pointed out, however, that the VA should be notified af any change in income from sources other than Social So cial Security and also of any change in dependency status. Mr. Watkins adds that this will not affect the importance of returning the income ques tionnaire which arrives with the November check around the first of December.
