C, Thursday, September 16, 1^65 THE CLINTON CHRONICLE Piedmont District PPresidents Meet ' At Woodruff Sept. 28 The East Piedmont District Presidents’ Meeting of the Gar den Club of South Carolina will be held on Tuesday, September 28, 1901, at the First Presbyter ian Church, 360 E. Georgia Street, Woodruff, like Yoodhiff Garden Clubs invin alt Board Members of the Girden ’Club of South Carolina, Past State Presidents, Council Presidents, District Chairmen, Club Presi dents, and garden club mem bers to attend. Following registration at 10:00 a. m., the meeting will begin promptly at 10:30' a. m. with Mrs. Fred E. Holcombe of Clin ton, District Director, presid ing. During the business ses sion, State Chairmen will pre sent plans for the garden club work for the coming year; therefore, it Is very important that all garden clubs of the East Piedmont District be rep resented. Honor Guest Speaker will be Mrs. S. Wayne Gamble, Sr., of Lane, President of the Garden Club of South Carolina. Reservations for the Dutch luncheon should be made by Friday, September 24, 1905, to Miss Beatrice Arnold, P. O. Box 229, Woodruff. Iris Garden Club To Meet Wednesday The Iris Garden Club will meet Wednesday, September 22, at the home of Mrs. Sidney Bonds in Bon Aire Acres at 3:30. Co-hostess will be Mrs. Allen Young. The guest speak er will be Mrs. Clifford Smith of Kinards, who will talk on ' Flower Arranging and Family Fred Burnett, Sr., Honored With Party Employees of Maxwell Bro thers Furniture Store and their wives joined in honoring Fred Burnett upon his retirement with the company, Thursday evening, September 9th in the Hospitality Room of the Mary Musgrove Hotel. A miniature rocking chair adorned with seasonal flowers made the lovely centerpiece on the dinner table. It also was a reminder at Mr. Burnett’s Job selling household furnishings with Maxwell Brothers Furni ture, since 1938 when the store was opened in Clinton. Course Hi will be held this fall. Course III will offered at Spartanburg dn Oc tober 20. 27, and 28. Mrs. L. S. Galloway is Chairman and the instructors are Mrs. R. G. Beardsley, of Atlanta, Georgia, for Flower Arrangements, and Mrs. C. P. Townsend of Abbe ville for Horticulture and Flow er Show Practice. Course IV will be offered in Columbia, on November 8, 9, and 10. Mrs. Malcolm Rattray, will be Chairman. Mrs. Harry A. Gwinner of Atlanta, Georgia, will be the instructor for Flower Arrangements, and Mrs. C. P. Townsend of Abbeville will be the instructor for Horticulture and Flower Show Practice. Senator Dobbins ^ Speaks To Club The September meeting of the Clinton Business and Profession al Women’s Club was held Tues day evening, September 14th, at the Mary Musgrove Hotel. Mrs. P. M. Pitts, president, presided. Mrs. Harold Power, program chairman, introduced guest speaker, State Senator from Lau rens County, W. C. Dobbins. Senator Dobbins gave an very intriguing talk on our county, state and Federal government, bringing out interesting points to the group that are of concern to women in business and profes sional positions. During the business meeting, Miss Dollie Culbertson of Lau rens, chairman of District 3, Northwest Area of the B and P W Clubs was present and brought greetings from the State Federa tion and gave information on the District 3 meeting to be held in Clinton, October 12, with the Clinton Club as hostess. Among other business discus sed was the Fall Board Meeting to be held September 24 and 25 at the Clemson House. Anyone wishing to go must contact Mrs. Pitts so reservations may be made. Another event for the coming fall season is the Inter- Club Bar-B-Q sponsored by the Laurens Exchange Club. This event will be held at the Laurens County Fair Ground, Thursday, October 14. Mrs. Gary Holcombe was wel comed as a new member and Miss June Adair and Mrs. Dob bins as club guests. Senator and Mrs. Dobbins were remembered with a gift from the club. JANET CAROLYN POOLE Miss Poole Engaged To Mr. West Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Holmes Poole of Clinton announce the engagement of their daughter, Janet Carolyn, of Clinton and Columbia to James Lewis West of Inman and Columbia. Mr. West is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl West of Inman. Miss Poole is a graduate of Anderson College and South Carolina Baptist Hospital School of Nursing. Mr. West attended Spartan burg Junior College and is presently a student in the School of Pharmacy at the University of South Carolina. The wedding is planned for November 20 in Clinton. i Clinton High Band To Entertain Legion Auxiliary The American Legion Auxili ary will have their first fall iR£et|ng next Tuesday, Septem ber Zl, with a picnic supper at the Moore’s Cottage on Lake Greenwood. Members are asked to bring a picnic lunch and meet at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Perry Moore on 106 E. Maple St., at 5:30 o’clock to leave in a group for the meeting. The Clinton High School Band, under the direction of Harry Bouknight, will be the entertainment for the evening. Members are urged to be pres ent. Methodist Circles To Meet Monday The Elbe Hatton Circle will meet Monday, September 20, at 3:30 o’clock at the home of Mrs. S. C. Dunlap. The M a y n e Johnson Circle will meet Monday, September 20, at 3:30 with Mrs. H. J. Pitts. Mrs. Mimnaugh Entertains Club Mrs. John Mimnaugh enter tained members of her bridge club and additional guests last Thursday with a luncheon at the Cecil P. Wilson home on Ansel Drive. Arrangements of mixed fall flowers were used in the card rooms where ten tables were in play following lunch which was served buffet style from the prettily appointed dining table. Centering the table was a large silver epergne filled with pink roses and pink begonia. Following the games the club hgh award was presented Mrs. Bailey Dixon, and the visitor’s award to Mrs. Robert Grube. Mrs. Reese Young, Jr., received the consolation prize. Mrs. Rimer Hostess To Lutheran Group The Lutheran Women of St. John’s Church met Monday at the home of Mrs. Shelton Rimer, with Mrs. Martin Kriegel as co hostess. Mrs. J.«E. Boyce pre sented an interesting program in skit form on “Our Neglect of Underprivileged children.” During the social period the hostess, assisted by her daugh ter, Kathy, served refreshments. The next meeting Is October 4 at 7:45 p. m. at the home of Mrs. T.M. Sease, Sr., on North Adair Street. Mrs. W. S Werts will be co-hostess, and Mrs. J. R. Reynolds will have charge of the program. Sarah Glenn Circle In September Meet The Sarah Glenn Circle of Broad Street Methodist Church met Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Louise Hilton on Musgrove Street. Assistant host esses were Mrs. Joe Davidson and Mrs. Tan Ray. Miss Kate Milam, circle chair man, presided over the business session and the program, based on the Beatitude, “Blessed are the Peace Makers,” was led by Mrs. Joe Bonds. An interesting story taking place in the Belgian Congo was given by Miss Eliza beth Copeland. Following the closing prayer, a dessert course was served. Century Club Meet With Mrs. Weersing The first meeting of the Cen tury Club will take place Tues day afternoon, September 21, at the home of Mrs. Marc C. Weer sing at 4 o’clock.
