C„ Thursday, May IS, 1965 Clinton Han Gives $10,000 to Boys Farm at Newberry A Clinton citizen with business interests in Newberry County will assist the residents of New berry in developing Boys Farm, a comparatively new institution that located in Newberry for the purpose of providing for home less boys. C. W. Anderson, Clinton hos iery manufacturer, with a plant at Whitmire, has offered a gift of $10,000. if citizens of Newber ry will raise $100,000. Rev. W. D. Shealy and his wife operate Boys Farm on the out skirts of Newberry, with the gifts of interested persons. Preliminary groundwork yas laid last week at a meeting of Newberry area business men to institute steps to “do some thing” for Boys Farm. Mr. Anderson was present at the meeting and spoke of his concern for Boys Farm. He said he was interested in seeing if another institution could grow into another Thornwell. , “I don’t think Boys Farm has enough property here to grow into what I’d like to see 90 to 100 years from now,” he said. “Getting money for this growth is about the easiest thing I know of.” He defined Boys Farm as an asset to Newberry, and said he wished the Shealys had located it in Clinton. Then he offered the Newber- rians a challenge. “If you can raise $100,000 for Boys Farm, I’ll contribute another $10,000 The group accepted the chal lenge of Mr. Anderson and John F. Clarkson, Newberry business and civic leader, accepted the task of leading the fund-raising drive. Anderson was asked how long he was going to give Newberry to raise its $100,000. “I’m kind of an impatient man,” he answered. “When I see a need like this one here, I want to see something done now. I see something for New berry in years to come. This is something that touches every one’s heart. The time to act is now.” G. C. Young Family Reunion Held Here The descendents of Nannie Blakely and George Christopher (Kit) Young held their eleventh annual meeting- in Clinton a tthe Copeland-Davison Legion Build ing on Sunday, May 9. Places were set for one hun dred The hall was decorated withered and white roses, the symbol of Mother’s Day. A pic nic luncheon, after having been blessed by . Dr. Redd Turner, was enjoyed. During lunch, Tim- mie, Pam, Chucky and Jane Mc- Keown. entertained the group with instrumental and vocal music. After lunch, came the business session. Mac Adair,. the presi dent, presided over the meeting. The minutes of the last meeting' were read by Doris Young Hart, secretary. Claude Crocker gave a report concerning the Nannie Blakely-Kit Young schholarsip fund. He reported that the fund is now large enough to grant a scholarship and it is now being used by a theological student at Presbyterian College. He also announced that funds are now coming in to start a second scholarship. The committee for placing a marker for Kit Young at Thorn- well did not have a complete re port. Nannell Blalock Moore read a memorial to Nancy Young Wil liams, Doris Young Hart read a memorial to R. Christopher Adair. Services Sunday For Wetl-Known Teodter Funeral services for Miss Su- pearly Beasley were held Sun day afternoon at 3 o’clock at?] Hebron Baptist Church, conduct-' ed by Rev. W. D.~ Coker. Burial was in the church cemetery. Her death occurred Saturday, May 1. She was a well known school teacher, having taught first at Bethel School near Clinton for many years at Bell Street El ementary School. She was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Beasley, also well konwn Clinton residents. Mrs. C. P. Sourti Hickory Tavern — Mrs. Mag gie Sue McNinch Sooth, 72, widow of Charlie P. South, died early Friday morning at the home of a daughter, Sirs. Floyd T. Lauthridge in the Hickory Tavern community after several years of declining WaWi A native of Laurens County, daughter of the late Alfred and Susan Hill McNinch, was a member of Henderson Baptist Church. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Lauthridge and Miss Anna South of Hickory Tavern and Mrs. George K. Whitten of Greenville; two sons, John Al fred South of Greenwood and Charles L. South of Greenville; a brother, John McNinch of Laur ens; and five grandchildren. Funeral services were con ducted Sunday at 3 p. m. at Henderson Baptist Church by Rev. William Jeffords Jr., Rev. Wilton Maxwell and Rev. Dan Greer. Burial was in Mt. GalL agher Baptist Church cemetery.
