Gives Program
At Meet Here
The Clinton Music Club met
on Wednesday, Apri 7, at the
home of Mrs. Robert Wassung.
Mrs. Audrey McCroskey, presi
dent, announced that the club
has received 1 an award of merit
from the National Federation
of Music Clubs for the “Parade
of American Music" program
presented by Mrs. Harry Mc-
Sween at the February meet
ing.
A varied program of choral
numbers, vocal and piano solos,
was presented by several mem
bers of the* Abbeville Music
Club. They were Mrs. Herman
Blessing, Mrs. Walter Cope,
Mrs. Stuart Copeland, Mrs. A.
B. Carwile, Mrs. Earl Fergu
son, Mrs. Frank Ramey, Mrs.
Jack Sutherland, and Mrs. Har
ry Thompson. Also performing
with the group was Mac Framp-
ton, an ErsUne College student,
who recently won a music con
test sponsored by the South
Carolina Exchange Clubs. His
winning entitles him to a trip
to New York to audition on the
Ted Mack talent program.
Hostesses assisting Mrs. Was
sung were Miss Margaret Bell,
Mrs. Nene Workman, and Mrs.
McCroskey.

of Virginia Beach, Va., an
nounce the marriage of their
daughter, Florence Joan, to
Seaman Third Class Virgil
Raye Cook, son of Mr. and
Mrs. C. C. Smith of this city.
The wedding vows were ex
changed Saturday evening, Ap
ril 10, at 7:90 o’clock in the
First Methodist Church in Eliz
abeth City, N. C.
Using the double ring cere
mony, the bride was given in
marriage by her father. She
wore a two piece blue spring
suit trimmed with mink. Match
ing blue accessories with an or
chid corsage completed her at
tire. Matron of honor was Mrs.
H. M. Unruk of Virginia Beach.
The groom was served by two
shipmates, Ronald Van Sant
and Gary Axline.
After a wedding trip which
included a brief visit to Clin
ton, the couple are making their
home at 4812 Floral Street,
Virginia Beach, while the
groom is stationed at Norfolk.

The bride wore a light blue

The couple is making their

The bride, given in marriage
by her father, was attired in a
daytime-length dress of satin
designed with a scooped neck
line, long sleeves, empire waist
and a train attached with a
bow at the waistline. Her brief
veil was held in place by a sat
in pillbox. An orchid adorned
her Bible which was a gift of
the groom’s mother.
Immediately following the
wedding, a reception was held
at the home of the bride.
The bride is a graduate of
Whitmire High School and a
sophomore at the Uhvfcrsity of
South Carolina. The groom is
attending the University. They
are making theii; home at 23-B
Woodland Terrace, Columbia.

Held In Edgefield
The Ridge District Conference
of South Carolina’s Division of
the United Daughters of the
Confederacy was held last Fri
day, April 3, at the Methodist
Church in Edgefield.
The Stephen D. Lee Chapter
members attending from Clinton
were Mrs. A. A. Ramage, Miss
Louise Kern, Mrs. Irene Pitts,
and Mrs. H. M. Young.
Principal speaker was Mrs.
Quinton Gregory of Halifax, N.
C., president general of the
United Daughters of the Confed
eracy.

Tea Honors
April Bride-Elect
Miss Marie Weir, April bride-
elect, was honored with a love

Clinton Community Building by
Mrs. Joe Land and Mrs. Guy
Tumblin.
Carrying out the pink and
white color motif were arrange
ments of spring flowers in the
receiving rooms and on the tea
table, which was covered with
a pink cloth overlaid with white
organdy. Centering .the table
was a silver bowl of pink car
nations and other spring flow
ers, flanked by pink tapers in
crystal candelabra. Mrs. J.
Platt Prather served punch, and
Mrs. Nell Haggart assisted in
serving dainty party refresh
ments, cake squares and nuts.
Assisting elsewhere were Mrs.
Irene Whitmire and Miss Peggy
Dunaway.

guest were her mother, Mrs.
John Weir, her sister, Mrs. Da
vid Word, sister-in-law, Mrs.
William Weir, and Mrs. Ray

Favors of miniature bags of
rice in pink net were pinned on
each guest as they arrived.

her chosen pattern.
Hawaiian Luau
Enjoyed By Girls
The American Legion Hut was
the scene of an Hawaiian Luau
Friday evening, enjoyed by
members of the Junior High
Camp Fires and their escorts.
Lining the walls of the huge
room were evergreens and in
the center was an Improvised
pool surrounded by turfs of,
grass. Posterboard girls dress
ed in grass skirts placed among
the secenry added to the Ha
waiian motif. Other arrange
ments included fish net with
simulated fish attached. The
refreshment table, covered in
fish net and artificial fish, held
the punch bowl and party re
freshments. A pineapple Bruit
bowl completed the arrange
ment.
Dancing was enjoyed during
the evening.
Assisting with the serving and
entertaining were Mrs. W. G.
King, Jr. and Mrs. H. J. Man-
gum.
