Consider these 1964 facts: • 48,000 persons were killed in traffic accidents, more than in any previous year, and within 5,000 of all the American servicemen killed in battle*in .World War I. o 587 men, women and children kwt their lives in auto mobile accidents over the Christmas week-end, an all-time record that brought sorrow and misery to their loved ones at a time that should be given over to joyfulness. o Two million persons were injured in automobile mis haps and the cost of the damage hit $8 billion.
