College Choir To
Appear Sunday At
Broad Si. Church
The Presbyterian College rob
ed choir will present its pro
gram of sacred music and wor
ship at the Broad Street Meth
odist Church of Clinton on Sun
day evening at 7:30.
The choir, widely recognized
throughout the South during the
past 18 years under the direction
of conductor Edouard Patte, has
developed its current program
around the theme “Covenan
ters.” In this service, the group
endeavors to bring the Joyful
conviction that all are “covenan
ters” with God in a world that
urgentiy needs Christian witnes
sing.
Dr. Patte, minister of music at
PC, utilizes 37 male voices —
including soloists and readers —
for his present organization. The
choir has arranged for its 1964-
’65 concert season a total of 25
singing engagements in three
states. In addition to week-end
appearances in churches of
Georgia and South Carolina, the

This year’s sample but pro
found theme will be developed in
a brilliant ItaUan Gloria, in litur
gical chants of the Russian
Church, in a motet of a German
Passion, in several Negro spirit
uals, a Norwegian anthem, a J.
S. Bach chorale, and in an an-
glican tune with five variations
and accompaniment. Also in
cluded on the program are: an
unusual English carol of the 15th
century, the rare Hospodi Pomil-
uri of Lvovsky, and a fuguing
tune of New England psalter
William Billigns as an example
of the simple and direct early
American compositions.
Jack Greene, a senior from
Spartanburg, is president of the
choir this year. Tommy Holland
of Lancaster, is organist, and
the readers include Arthur Bax
ter of Atlanta and Hubert G.
Wardlaw, Jr., of Kingstree.
