Mayor’s Car Bums
Whilf Mayor and Mrs. J. J. Cornwall were driving
Sunday Afternoon their car caught fire approximately
three miles south of the city on Highway 56. Both Mr.
and Mrs. Cornwall escaped without injuries, but fire
department officials described the car as a total loss
after the blaze. The call was answered by a truck

Mrs. H. B. Williams
Dies in Charlotte
Mrs. Nancy Young Williams,
47, wife of Harry B. Williams of
2312 Bancroft street, Charlotte,
N. C., died Thursday, Nov. 12,
1964 in Presbyterian Hospital,
Charlotte.
Born August 18, 1917 in Clin
ton, she was the daughter of
Henry M. Young and Grace Fur-
queron Young. Mrs. Williams
was a clerk with Carolina Telco
Credit Co., and member of First
Presbyterian Church. Before
her marriage she taught in the
Clinton Public Schools and was
a graduate of Presbyterian Col
lege.
Funeral services were held at
11 a. m. Saturday at McEwen
West Chapel with Dr. E. Lee
Stoffel, her minister, and the
Rev. Leonard Topping, associate
minister, officiating. Interment
in Sharon Memorial Path, Char
lotte.
Surviving in addition to her
parents and husband, are a son,
Harry (Hap) B. Williams Jr., of
the home: a sister, Mrs. Ro-
mayne Hamilton of Easley; four
brothers, Henry M. Young Jr.,
of Clinton; George C. Young,
of Travelers Rest; J. Edmunds
Young, of Newberry; and the
Rev C Davis Young of Hernan
do, Miss.
Active pallbearers were John
D Sigman. Joseph E. Dillon III,
Edwan H. Smith, Albert J. Cam
eron, W C. Birmingham, all of
Charlotte, N. C., and Rembert
Truluck of Clinton — Honorary

Named At Winthrop
Thirty-two students were re
cently chosen to serve as mar
shals at Winthrop College by
a special committee appointed
by the president of the college.
Selected from Clinton were
Miss Emily Davis, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. William J. Davis,
and Mias Sandra Dunaway,
daghter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles
F. Dunaway.
Marshals must have a 3.0
scholastic average and are
choaen on the basis of citizen
ship and character.

Cathey, a 170-pounder, re
ceived the CHS citation pri
marily for his defensive play
in the 13-13 tie with Doodruff
which the Red Devils lost on a
penetration playoff. He made
several resounding tackles
from his linebacker position.
Thornwell’s winner, 140-pound
left end Chandler, caught four
passes and stood out on defense
although his squad took a 35-6
defeat at the hands of defending
Class C champions Norway.
Miss Sharpe Chosen

Miss Brenda Sharpe, a senior
at the Columbia Hospital School
of Nursing, has been selected as
a member of the school’s senior
honorary society, Santa Filome-
na.
Membership in Santa Filomena
is one of the top honors a stu
dent nurse can receive. Mem
bership is limited; seven mem
bers of the senior class were
chosen by the seven members of
Santa Filomena who graduated
from the school this year. Qual
ifications for membership are:
“initiative as a leader, ability to
demonstrate outstanding nursing
care, and achievement toward a
higher scholastic standard.”
Members of Santa Filomena
receive a mniature gold Nightin
gale lamp pin to be worn over
the heart on their uniforms. This
pin becomes a part of the uni
form.
Miss Sharpe is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Sharpe of
Cross Hill.
