Jessie Lyda of Atlanta, Ga., spent a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Shepard and other relatives here recently. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Stone of Jt jnsonvtlle, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Graham and family last week-end. Rev. L. L. Powell, pastor of the Church of the Prophecy on Sloan Street, held a revival in vid Owens and Mrs. Alta Fuller aslsted in song services. Mrs. Sara Cheek and Mr. and Mrs. Dan Jones and daughter of Greenwood, were week-end Greenwood Sunday. Mr. Rush has been very ill, and Mr. Ook visited Raymond Tucker, a pa tient at Self Memorial hospital. Among those from'oot of town here for the funeral of Boy Leathers were Mrs. Bona Leath ers. Mrs. Polly Tate, Mrs. Axalle Nabors, Mrs. Ruth Nabors, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Donnan, Luther Craine, Roy Culbreath, Mrs. Rosa Graham, of Greenville; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Burts of Mauldin; Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Humphries of Anderson; Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hembree and, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Phillips of Ware Shoals. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Trammell alnd daughter, Nancy, and Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Banks spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Tom mie Peace in Woodruff. Mrs. C. G. Ballanger of Char lotte, N. C., spent the week-end with Rev. and Mrs. J. Thomas Miller and family. Mr. and Mrs. Joe SpiRers and Mr. and Mrs. Ghoktte Simmons, Mr. and Mrs. Jamss McElhan- non attended the Textile Exposi tion in Greenville Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Bigbee, children of Atlanta, Ga., were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Kelley Proffitt recently. Mrs. Susie Hawks is a patient at Bailey Memorial Hospital. Those confined at home with colds are Mrs. R. E. Cheek, Mrs. David Owens, Mike Lyda, Bry ant and Laura Shepard. Mrs. Sidney Riser is a patient in the Anderson hospital. Mrs. W. E. Rogers is ill at her home. Little Debbie Jean Nelson had a birthday October 17th., INSTALLATION SERVICE The Fidelia Class of Calvary Baptist Church held an instal lation service for officers Tues day evening, October 13, at the home of Mrs. Lila Cox, teacher of the class, on Pitts Street. A welcome was extended by Mrs. Cox. Presiding over the meeting was Mrs. Sara Major, assistant teacher. An invocation by Mrs. Judy Kinard, past presi dent, was followed by “O Way of Life,” vocal solo by Miss Jane Trammell. A service entitled “Doors” was presented upon a colorful background projection, “Christ at the Door,” by Mrs. Irene Whitmire, installing officer. Fol lowing an address by the new president, Mrs. Dot Ballew, a hymn of dedication was sung. The benediction was led by Mrs. Sara Major. A buffet supper was served. Love gifts were presented to the guests. Work is now under way on a pond on the firm of Charles E. Tidewlll in the northern part of the county near Cooks Store. W. W. Robinson has finished terrace construction on a ten- acre field on his farm in Long Branch section. Other farmers having terraces built with. the district’s motor grader are George Richard Buford, Hugh Buford, T. A. Edmonds, Collie Edmonds, and T. P. and D. E. Brown. Technicians of Soil Con servation Service assisted these farmers in surveying the terrace lines. of stream channel below the two new dams is expected to be let during the next month. The work will consist of removing at logs, stumps and other debris, and also clearing a 10 foot strip on each side of the stream chan nel. 1 1 The clearing is crease the capacity channel and ing down channel which will drainage of bottom the stream. Notes By J. B. O’DELL Work Unit Conservationist A nice farm pond has recently been finished on the Russell R. Bums farm between Barksdale and Ora. This is the second pond constructed on this farm, and Mr. Burns has plans for building several more ponds for stock wa tering as his livestock program is expanded. The vegetative treatment work on the dam, spillway and borrow areas on the two new watershed dams on the Whitten Village farm was completed recently. Posey W. Copeland, of Clinton and Marvin Nelson, Route 2, Laurens were the contractors for the planting of the grasses and legumes on these areas . C. D.
