Clinton High

We students at Clinton High
have really gotten back into the
swing of things by now. Tescbers
have been assigning tests and
pUbs of homework, just as if we
had never stopped for summer
vacation, and student^ have been
heard complaining about it all
over school.
Last Friday everyone report
ed to the gymnasium for the
first pep meeting of the year.
Spirits were high, and the big
Red Devil football team did not
let us down as they defeated
York that night, 12-6.
The Red Devil team was not
the only group making their
first appearance of the season
Friday night, nowever. The new
freshman cheerleader, Shirley
Simpson and Melissa Turner, led
cheaps for the first time since
their election last week. Also
making their debut were CHS’s
new majorettes—Pat Thomason.

land, and Cathy Bouknight.
Anyone passing by Clinton High
during school hours is likely to
notice the new United States
flag flying from the flagpole.
This flag, presented to Butch
Rice by Senator Olin Johnstson
when he served as a page last
summer, has flown over the
United SUtes Capitol in Wash
ington, D. C. The new flag
makes much more an impres
sive sight than the faded, torn
old flag which flew in front of
CHS for several years.

O’Dell, 77, formerly of Lyman,
a resident of Travelers Rest
for the past four years, died at
■ Greenville hospital at 1:80 a.
m., Saturday, after a serious
illness of a week.
She was bora and reared la
Laurens County near Whitmire,
daughter of the late James Cal
houn and Mary Frances Ray
O’DeJl. She was a member of
the Travelers Rest Methodist
Church.
Surviving are a son, James
M. O’Dell of Travelers Rest; a
sister, Mrs. Nannie O. Hitt of
Clinton; four grandchildren, and
one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were con
ducted Sunday at 2:20 p. m. at
the Travelers Rest Methodist
Church by Dr. John Mason Sta
pleton and Rev. Lewis Sher-
rani. Burial was in the O’Dell
cemetery near Whitmire.
