EVERYDAY COUNSELOR •j should be made only to God and probably to one IndlTidnal who could wall be a minster. Whan we make trye confession to God (or our sins, we should accept It and leave It. Lets' stop talking about it and thinking about it, and, of course, stop re peating it. Those who confess sin and then turn around and repegt it again only add to their suf fering. Sexual sins seem more difficult to release after true confession than any other. I’m often asked whether sexual sins prior to marriage should be con fessed to one another by those about to be married. My answer is NO. Confession should be made to God, and perhaps the priest, minister, or rabbia, for- priest, ministed, or rabbi, for- the matter rest. In our many years of mar riage counseling we’ve learned that man and woman, of what ever age, who have physical in tercourse with one another prior to their marriage to one anoth er, find it very difficult to for give one another. And they find it even harder to forget it There ii a subconscious reaction. The subconscious thinking goes about like this. The man reminds him self that if the wife yielded to him before marriage when it was Illegal, then he had better watch out because she might do th%t to another man. The wife goes through the same reaction and is suspicious of her husband from then on. We’ve counseled with many Jealous husbands and wives. It doesn’t take long for me to sense where the trouble commenced. After they have talked for a while and perhaps accused their mates, I ask, “Did you perchance have intercourse with one anoth er before you were married?” Almost always they will answer the question in the affirmative, but cannot understand what that has to do with it. They seem sur prised when I tell them that here’s where the flame of Jeal ousy was Ignited. Physical love is a vital part of the marriage relationship, but to be truly enjoyed it must be reserved to marriage.
