Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Wise and children, Cathy, Gerald, and Perry, of Charlotte were Friday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Holcombe and family. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Berley and sons of Charlotte were guests in Clinton over the weekend, coming especially for a visit with Tommy Hatton. Mr. and Mrs. J. D. McKee spent Sunday in the mountains of N. C. touring many points of interest. CELEBRATED BIRTHDAY Steve Welch celebrated his 9th birthday, Monday, with a party at his home. Steve is the son of the Rev. and Mrs. J. W. Welch. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Baker spent the weekend in Atlanta, Ga., going especially for a visit with Dr. D. O. Rhame who is a patient at Emory Hospital. Weekend guests of Mrs. L. B. Dillard were her daughters and family. Dr. and Mrs .John Forsyth of Fort Worth, Texas; the Rev. and Mrs. Allen Mc- Sween and family of Greensboro, N. C.; and Miss Emily Dillard of Greenville. RETURNED FROM SCANDINAVIAN TOUR Misses Murray Addison and Miss Corinne Boyd returned last Thursday from several weeks visit with the Brownell Tours to the Scandinavian and other Eu ropean countries. Miss Addison is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Addison and this year will be a rising junior at the Univer sity of South Carolina. Miss Boyd is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. D. H. McFadden and will be a junior at Converse College this fall. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Coleman and daughter, Lynn, returned last week from touring points of interest along the coast of N. C. and Virginia. While away they were the guests of former Clin ton residents, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Campbell in Greensboro, N. Guests Tuesday of Mr. and Mrs. Milford Smith were Mrs. Thomas Hunt and children, Lee and Cathryn, of Rock Hill. Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Hollard visited Sgt. (Ret.) Willie Can non at the Veterans Hospital in Columbia the past weekend. While in Columbia they also at tended The Sandlapper 500 race on Friday evening. Mrs. H. E. Sturgeon returned this week to her home on Hick ory St., having spent the past two weeks in Durham, N. C.i with her daughter, Miss Jane Sturgeon. While away, Mrs. Stur geon and her daughter visited points of interest in the moun tains of North Carolina. Sgt. Willie Cannon was recent ly transferred from Fitzsimons Army Hospital in Denver, Colo rado, to the Veterans Hospital in Columbia. Mr. and Mrs. Blakely Tribble accompanied by their daughter, Mrs. Betty Wills of Due West, spent the weekend at Bonclark- en near Flat Rock, N. C. CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY Beth Werts, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Werts, celebrated her third birthday at the home of her grandmother, Mrs. Sara Jen kins. Games were played in the afternoon and later the birth day cake was served with ice cream. Miss Werts was re membered with gifts by her little friends. Frankie Ward of Allendale was a recent guest of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Holland and Johnny Can non. Copeland left Friday for Richmond, Va.. after spend ing the summer with her daugh ter, Mrs. J. A. Neighbors Mrs. Copeland will spend the winter with her daughter. Mrs Mar shall Dendy Mrs Neighbors and her daughter. Mrs Bobby Huffman and Mr Huffman ac companied Mrs Copeland to Richmond Miss Nancy Neighbors and Wayne Morgan will accompany Mrs W. Fla , after spending sev eral days with her sister, Mrs L. L. Young, and other relatives Mrs. Mixon was enroute home from a world tour Mr. and Mrs. Sam McCrary, May Lynn and Sammie have re turned from a vacation stay at the Isle of Palms where they were guests of Mr. and Mrs. L. Pearson, and Tampa. Fla., where they visited the former’s brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bill McCrary. Miss Lillian Hat of Williams,- burg, Va., is visiting her pa rents, Mr. and Mrs. J, B. Hart. Misses Helen and Julia Porter have returned from Montreal, N. C., where they spent the summer at their cottage. Miss Truda Heaton of Spruce Pines, N. C., spent a few days last week as the guest of Mrs. George R. Holand. Vinton, Smith, Jr., has return ed to his home in Neptune, N. J., after a visit with his parents, Lt.. Col. and Mrs. F. V. Smith. , Mrs. Raymond Pitts has been spending several days in Sumter with her brother and sister-in- law, Mr. and Mrs. George Bult- man. Mrs. George R. Holland has returned from a vacation stay at Fontana Village, N. C., and other points of interest. She accom panied her daughter. Mrs. Joe Hagins and daughter, Miss Rita Hagins of Abbevile. Miss Jo Ellen Roberts, mem ber of the Thornwell Orphanage office staff, is vacationing this week at Hilton Head Island. Harry McSween will leave September 1 for The Citadel in Charleston where he will assist in orientation of the freshman class. He is a member of the training cadre for The Citadel. Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Taylor and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Gall- man and daughter, Polly, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Mal colm Price in Abbeville. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Winslow and son, Ford, of Bloomington, Ind., acompanied Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Thomason of this city on a visit to New York. While away they will also visit points of in terest in Canada. Dr. and Mrs. George Belling- arth a*c spend ng some time with their daughter, Mrs. Wade Mobley, and Mr. Mobley in Troy, N. C. While there Dr. Belling- rath was guest speaker at the First Presbyterian Church for Sunday services. Mr. and Mrs. John H. Fulmer visited the latter’s parents, Mr, and Mrs. R. C. Hubbard, in Seneca last week. Mr. and Mrs Norman Myers of New York, visited Mr. and Mrs. Robert Vance several days the past week Mrs. C. H. Thomason accom panied her mother, Mrs. Robert Oates of Easley, to Emory Hos pital in Atlanta. Ga., where Mrs. Oates underwent eye surgery. Miss Mary Bailey Vance and Miss Rennie Hollis returned last Wednesday following several weeks stay at Camp Ton A-Wan dah near Hendersonville. N. C. Mr. and Mrs Morris Seymour and sons were in Bowman. Ga.. the past week end. going espec ially for the 1M4 class reunion at Bowman High School Bob and Russell Vance re turned Friday following several weeks stay at Camp Moorehead Birth Announcements BLACK Mr and Mrs. William E. Spoone of this city. PHILLIPS The Rev. and Mrs. J. Gaynor Phillips announce the birth of a daughter, Mary Elizabeth, on August 18 at Self Memorial Hos- ptal in Greeenwood. The Rev.
