Belt Street High
School To Operate
Sommer Session
For the ftrfst time, summer
school will be made available to
students of Bell Street High
School this summer. The purpose
of the session is to allow delin
quent students to take one or
two units of work, thereby mak
ing it possible for them to ac
quire the necessary number of
units for promotion to the next
class.
All work will be repeated work,
and an average of 60 in a sub
ject will be required for a stu
dent to attend summer school.

sidered for summer school but
must be taken over during regu
lar session.
The minimum number of
weeks for the summer session
will be six and a student must
attend the full six weeks. Classes
will extend from 8 a. m. to 12
noon. *
Tuition for repeat work will be
$15.00 for each subject, payable
upon registration.
Parents who desire that their
children attend summer school
are urged to contact the princi
pal of Bell Street High or the
home room teachers of their
children.
Registration at Bell Street High
School will take place June 1,
at 8:00 a. m.

Team Takes Lead
In First Week's Play
Plenty of action wa« seen last
week as teams of the city Soft-
ball League began their summer
schedule. Much interest is being
shown and some good crowds
witnessed the nine games. . ;
Calvary Baptist leads play at
this stage with a clean slate of
two victories, followed by David
son Street Baptist with two wins
and a tie. \
Two games will be played each
night except Wednesday and
Saturday.
The games are being played
on the newly lighted field on the
Clinton High School grounds.
Those attending the games are
requested to park in the lot be
hind the school and not drive
down the playing area.

Committee Meets
For Session Here
Members of the South Caro
lina Tree Farm Committee met
in Clinton Tuesday for one of
their regular ssesions. They
were guests of the Champion
Paper Co. at their headquar
ters south of the city on High
way 56.
The purpose of the tree farm
program is to give public rec
ognition to private woodland
owners who are doing outstand
ing jobs in the management
of forest lands. The basic aim
of the program is to place
more woodland under manage
ment practices that will bring
continuing benefits to the own
er and produce more and bet
ter forest products.
Tree farmers are encouraged
to use thier woodlands for rec
reation, watershed protection,
hunting, fishing or other mul
tiple use. However, tree pro
duction and harvesting is the
major use.
The program is sponsored
nationally by the American
Forest Products Industries,
Inc., and in South Carolina by
the South Carolina Forest In
dustries Committee with the
cooi>eration of the Clemson
College Extension Service and
the South Carolina Commission
of Forestry. Included on the
committee are represnetatives
from consulting froesters and
woodland owners.
There are 588 tree farms in
the the state, embracing more
than two million acres.

an Eastern AA Conference game
here Friday to give the Red
Devils a 7-4 record.
The Devils scored three runs
in the seventh. Mike Osborne,
the winning pitcher, laid down
a squeeze bunt to send the win
ning run across the plate in the
inning.
