SOCIAL SKUMIY
Question—I got a letter the
other day saying I have to make
a social security report of my
baby sitter’s wages if I pay her
at least $50 cash in a calendar
quarter. I hire a baby sitter one
night a week and pay her $4.00
each time she sits. Will I have
to report the money a pay her?
Answer — If you baby sitter
works for you every week of the
quarter (January-March, April-
June, etc.,), her wages would
total $52.00 The law requires
that you report these wages.
Question—I hired a part time
maid last month and pay her $10
a week. I don’t want to :be both
ered with the red tape of making
a report of her wages every
three months. Will it be all right
if I just make one report for
the year.?
Answer—No. Your report must
be made by the end of he month
following each calendar quarter.
A person must have a certain
number of quarters of work to
get social security payments.
This is why the report must be
made each quarter. If you do not
file your report on time, you will
have to pay interest and penalty
for late filing.
Question—I have been a maid
in a private home for the last 5
years. This is the only work I
have ever done away from
home. I want to put in for social
security but my employer has
never reported my wages. What
can I do?
Answer—Go ahead and file
your claim. We will see your em
ployer and get a record of wag
es she has paid you. She will
have to pay inerest and a pen
alty for not reporting your wag
es on time.
Question—I take care of my
employer’s children in her
home. She does not make a
social security report for my
wages. I am not ready to claim
social security payments, but I
want to be sure I get credit for
my wages. Is there anything I
can do?
Answer—Come to see us right
away. Bring any evidence you
have of your wages. We will in
vestigate and see that you get
credit for your work. Your em
ployer will have to pay interest
and a penalty for her failure to
report your wages on time.
Q. If I hire someone to help
me, how can I be sure of report
ing(er wages- correctly whan
she has lost her social security
card and can’t remember her
number?
A. Have her apply for a dupli
cate card. Tell her to put a note
on the card form (available at
the post office or social security
office) asking that you be noti
fied of the number. Then, when
the duplicate card is issued (us-

The CHRONICLE
Statmery Poyrntwopt
Read Jonah 3:1-14); Psalm 130
Jonah cried, “Yet forty days, and Ninevah shall be
overthrown!” And the people of Ntnevah believed God.
(Jonah 3:4-5. RSY.)
The message of Jonah to the people of Ninevah was short,
sharp, and severe. He walked from one end of the city to the
other and proclaimed these words of doom.
The people of Ninevah, believing Jonah, might have become
paneiky and might have prepared to evacuate the city. Kings
and nobles, man and beast, herd and flock might have completely
deserted the city doomed to be destroyed in forty days.
But the people of Ninevah believed God. They believed in a
God of mercy who would turn from His fierce anger and His threat
to destroy them. y - -
So they set about'doing things that would make it unnecessary
for God to carry out His judgment against them. They decided
that everyone should put on sackcloth, sit in ashes, and fast. These
were signs of true repentance and change of heart. In other
words, everyone turned from his evil ways, and God saved them
and their city from destruction.
PRAYER
O God, who dost abhor our sinful ways and makes plain
the doom of evildoers, we believe in Thee. O God of
mercy, we turn unto Thee in true repentance. Sme us
from perishing in our wickedness. For Jesus’ sake.
Amen.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Change of heart in the vile man moves the heart of God to
grant mercy and forgiveness.

One of South Carolina’s oldest
communities is Orangeburg, a
bustling industrial and agricul
tural center about 40 miles
southwest of the state capital
and some 70 miles from Charles
ton. The state's main east-to-
west artery. Interstate 28, pass
es just 4 miles northeast of the
city.
Orangeburg was first settled
about 1704 by an Indian trader
named Henry Sterling. In 1730,
the General Assembly of the
Province of South Carolina es
tablished it as a township. By
1735, a group of Swiss, German
and Dutch immigrants settled in
the community, because of its
ideal farming location on the
banks of the Edisto River. The
river provided the outlet to the
port city of Charleston for agri
cultural and lumber products.
