i THE CLINTON CHRONICLE CUatom & C„ Thursday, April 30, 1964 Hebron Baptist Church Bums Mortgage Hebron Baptist Church, North Broad Street, held a mortgage-burning cere mony Sunday at the morning service hour. In 1958, the church launched a $14,000 expansion program which in cluded a new auditorium. With the loan repaid in full, members gathered for the special service Sunday. Softball League To Open Monday The city softball league is scheduled to open Monday night on the newly lighted field on the Clinton High School grounds. Mayor J. J. Cornwall will toss out the first ball and David Word, president of the league, will act as catcher. Rev. A. S. Harvey, pastor of Broad Street Methodist Church, will give the invocation. The eight-team church league will play a regularly scheduled season. Monday night’s openers are: Broad St. Methodist vs Presbyte- rian-Bethany at 7 o’clock; and Calvary Baptist vs Lydia Pente costal at 8:45. Tuesday’s games: First Bap tist vs Davidson St. Baptist; Hol ly Grove Baptist-Bailey Metho dist vs Lydia Baptist-Leesville Methodist. Farm Bureau Meets Officers, directors and wives of the Laurens County Farm Bureau held their quarterly meeting at Vernon’s on Tues day evening. Wilbur D. Scur ry, district sales manager, of Saluda, met with the dircetors. The highlight of the program was a colored film on the for eign trade market which was shown by Henry L. Eeason, Assistant County Agent of Lau rens County. 1914 Class of Clinton High Plans Reunion In May of 1914, there were 14 girls and boys who graduated from Clinton High School and were given diplomas by A. C. Daniel as superintendent and Grady Bowman as principal. Eleven of the graduates are still living and the address of each is known. Members of the cass are planning to hold their 50th reun ion at the Mary Musgroye Hotel in Clinton in the form of a lunch eon. John Holland Hunter will be MC, and Mrs. Julia (Owens) Sader will be registration clerk. Mrs. Inez (Blakely) Robertson will be in charge of flowers, and Joe H. Simpson of Whitmire, is acting secretary- Some 25 gradu ates with their husbands and wives and teachers are expected to attend. TOMMY WINDSOR Junior Bowjers To Begin Tourney The local junior bowling league will hold its first annual tournament beginning Saturday. It will be a two-day affair, with the second day coming on the following Saturday, May 9. Due to the full schedule of senior bowlers, the juniors will be the only ones to bowl this Saturday. Trophies will be awarded for singles, doubles, and teams. Oth er trophies wil be given for high games, high series, and all events. All bowlers are invited to participate. PLAYERS WIN TROPHIES Last week ended the season for the AJBC bowling league. Trophies will be awarded at a banquet to be held later this month. In the senior division the win ning team was the Spares. Mem bers of the team are Lawrence Leopard, Mike Osborne, Larry Barker, Jerry Coker, and Del- mar Lawson. The high game of the year was a 223 bowled by Wayne Alewine. The high series was a 595 bowled by Charles Cannon. In the junior division the win ning team was the Pin Busters. The high game, which was 234, was bowled by Donald Osborne. James Meadows won high series with a 496. Highest average went to Randy Nobles with a 142. average. In the bantam division the win ning team was the Belk’s Ca dets. High game went to Leland Nelson with a 191. Steve Fennell had high series of 485 and also high average with 132. Taleptioiie Pioneers To Meet At MyrHe Beach Long service telephone em ployees from throughout South Carolina will gather at Myrtle Beach May 1 for a two-day meeting. Some 500 members of the J. Epps Brown Chapter of the Telephone Pioneers of America will converge on the Ocean Font Hotel for their an nual assembly. The Telephone Pioneers or ganization is composed of per sons with 21 or more years service in the telephone indus try in the United States and Canada. Pioneers from the Spartan Council in this area are plan ning to attend the meeting are Mn. Joe Leake, Mrs. Louie Thomley, Mrs. Wyman Shealy and Mrs. Lucius Burns. Former Resident Fosses tn Florida News was received last week of the death of Harry Elder, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom El der Jr., of Jacksonville, Fla., and a former resident of this city. Burial services were held Saturday afternoon in Athens, Ga.
