The Lydia Woman’s Club met
at the community building on
Thursday evening for the regu

The Laurens County Agent, M.
L. Outz, was guest speaker and
talked on lawns and their care,
and the different types of lawn
grasses. Mr. Outz also showed a
number of slides pertaining to
lawns and soil.
During the business session
plans were discussed for the
forthcoming World’s Fair trip.

Notes

Work Unit Conservationist
H. M. Miles of Route 1, Lau
rens is the first to report that he
has his coastal bermuda land
ready for planting. Miles will
plant around 16 acres of this
perennial hay, grazing and ero
sion control grass on his cattle
farm in the Shiloh section. The
local Soil Conservation District
will assist him by furnishing the
usual planting service consisting
of the needed bermuda springs,
planters and labor.
~ James D. Wasson, Laurens
District Supervisor, was notified
this week that the State Water
shed Planning Party would be
gin work on Rabon Creek with
in about four weeks — accord
ing to H. J. Dowdle, Assistant
State Conservationist in charge
of watersheds.
The Greenville County portion
of Rabon Creek Watershed has
been in the process of being or
ganized for sometime: On Mar.
10, 1964, a referendum was held:
the vote was 566 for and none
against the creation of this Wa
tershed Conservation District.
Rabon Creek has already been
given tentative State Priority •—
subject to the Greenville portion
being organized. With the fa
vorable referendum in Green
ville we are proceeding with
plans preparatory to beginning
actual field work within the next
month or six weeks.
W. H. Fleming, local Soil
Scientist with the Soil Conserva
tion Service, is setting out about
12 acres of peach orchard on his
farm in the Lanford section. The
local SCS office assisted Flem
ing in the layout of the terraces
and contours for the planting of
the new orchard.
