Kapp, and Mr. Kapp in Columbia. , JUDGE FOR CONTEST * Mrs. James Von Hollen was at Erskine College, Due West, on Saturday, March 21, where she was one of the judges in the Dis trict Piano Contest sponsored by the South Carolina Music Teach ers Association. Mrs. R. S. Owens left the ear lier part of the week to spend the Easter holidays with her daughter and son-in-law, the Rev. and Mrs. Carl Clary, in Bishopville. _ RETURNS FROM TRIP - Mrs. John W. Little returned this week from a trip to Hatches, Miss, and New Orleans, La., and the Bellingrath Gardens in Mo bile, Ala. Mrs. Little’s travel ing companion was Mrs. F. E. Jordan of Columbia. They joined the Moore Tours of Charlotte and enjoyed a week’s trip of sight seeing. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Gore and family recently spent the week end in Hemmingway visiting relatives. Mrs. Elias Rivers of Charles ton spent the weekend with her son, the Rev. Frends will be interested to know Harry McSween is return ing to work this week following several days of recuperation at home and a hospital stay. Guest of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Walker is the latter’s mother, Mrs. Lester C. Childs of Hins dale, 111. Mrs. Childs will be visiting her over the holidays. Professor and Mrs. J. K. John son, Jr., of Clemson and Georgia Tech are spending a few days with the former’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. K. Johnson. MISS JOHNSON ELECTED TO STUDENT COUNCIL Janet Johnson has recently been elected to the Student Coun cil at Winthrop College, being chosen hoys e councilor for Rod- dey Hall. Janet has been classi fied as a sophomore, having been exempted from the equiva lent of a semester’s work last fall. She was invited to join an Honors Seminar this semester as one of a select group of stu dents chosen by the Honors Council on the basis of scholar ship and leadership. Janet is also serving as social chairman of her dormitory for the Winthrop Fine Arts Association. Mr. and Mrs. Grady Chandler, Mrs. Ed Perry and children, Mrs. Margaret Barry and daughter, and Mr. and Mrs. George P. Brown of Laurens en joyed a fish dinner on Saturday at the Panorama Lodge. Mr. and Mrs Rivers Jenkins of Charleston will arrive this weekend to spend the Easter holidays with their daughter and son-in-law, Dr and Mrs. James Macdonald and family. RETURNED TO EPISCOPAL HIGH Jimmy and Harry Sullivan re turned to Episcopal High in Alexandria, Virginia this Sunday following a weeks vacation with their parents, Dr. and Mrs. E N. Sullivan. Mrs. Hugh Simpson will spend the Easter holidays in. Winns- boro with her daughter, Mrs. lutt R. McMaster and Mr. Mc- Master. Mr. and Mrs. G. R. Porter of Hawkins vi lie, Ga., spent the week-end with the former’s sis ters, Misses Helen and Julia Porter. Mrs. Ressie McKenzie spent the week-end in Colbert Ga., with her sister, Mrs. W. C. Por terfield. PROMOTED TO LIEUTENANT RANK Cadet Wllmot Shealy has been promoted to the rank of Lieuten ant in the Cadet Corps at Geor gia Military College in Milledge- ville. Cadet Shealy is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilmot Shealy of Maple Street. Cadets Duckett Adair, Joel Cox, Charles Cooper, Bill Horne, flap McSween and Ty Smith, students at Hie Citadel, Charles ton, are home for Spring holi days. Miss Jean 1 Arnold, student at Winthrop College, and Miss Mar jorie Arnold, student at William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va., are spending Spring and Easter holidays with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Arnold. IN NEWBERRY MEMORIAL Harvey Shealy is a patient at Newberry County Memorial hos pital where he is undergoing treatment. Miss Pat Duncan, student at Lander College, Greenwood is spending Spring holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Duncan. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Davis and Mary Belle Davis spent the week-end in Rock Hill with their daughter and sister, Miss Trecie Davis, student at Winthrop Col lege and attended the Junior Follies on Saturday evening. TOUR GARDENS IN CHARLESTON Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Young and Mr. and Mrs. James Traynham spent the week-end in Charles ton, going especially to see the gardens. Mrs. R. S. Horton spent the week-end in Newberry with her brother, Munson Davis and Mrs. Davis. Mrs. Gordon E. Warden of Huntsville, Alabama, is visiting her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Warden Jr., and family for the Easter holi days. Stewart of this city. Mrs. J. H. Campb.il Mrs. Annie Griffin Campbell, 88, widow of J. H. Campbell, died Saturday eight at the home of a daughter, Mrs. W. W. Simpson. after several years of declining health. > A native of Cross Hill, daugh ter of the late Richard S. and Elizabeth Turner Griffin, she was a member of Bethabra Bap tist Church of Cross Hall. Surviving in addition to her daughter are a son, J. W. Camp bell qf Oakland, Calif.; and a nephew, whom she reared, M. C.
