Mr. and Mrs. Wilmot Shealy, Sr. are visiting for a few days with relatives in Columbia. RETURNED FROM TRIP TO MISSISSIPPI Mr. and Mrs. J. V. Stilwell and Mr. and Mrs. J. V. Stilwell, Jr. recently returned from a week end trip to Biloxi, Miss where they were joined by Mr. ahd Mrs. J. S. Stilwell of Houston, Texas. Mrs. Jackie Bigham, Mrs. Syl via Kernells and Mrs. Ruby Woods attended the cosmetologist convention in Columbia on Sun day. Mrs. Milford Smith and child ren, Gail, Barry, and Libby spent the weekend wit* Mrs. Smith’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Jones in Blacksburg. , Friends will be interested to know Mrs. Earl Rice is convales cing at her horn# following sur gery and stay last week at Bailey Memorial hospital. Mrs. Frederick F. Forte has returned to her home in New London, Conn., after spending several weeks with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence F. Davis. Miss Corinne Boyd, student at Converse College, Spartan burg, spent the week-end with her parents, Dr. and Mrs. D. H. McFadden. Friends of Carlton F. Winn will be interested to know he is con valescing niceiy at Bailey Memo rial Hospital following an illness. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Marcengill and son, Larry spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Jim BarQ.eld in Rock HiU. Milton Moore, student at Wof ford College, Spartanburg, spent the week-end at home. Mrs. J. D. Jeanes visited her son, Jack Jeanes and family in Atlanta, Ga., recently. Friends of Mr. Jeanes will regret to learn that he is ill. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Hodges of Ware Shoals visited Mr. and Mrs. Ed Wells, Sr., on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Cooper were recent guests of their son and daughter-in-law, v Mr. and Mrs. Billy Cooper in Atlanta, Ga. Cadet Ronnie Tiller who at tends Georgia Military College, Milledgeville, Ga., spent the week-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James N. Tiller. He was accompanied by $ class mate, Jeff Bailey from Louisi ana. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Spratt of Blacksburg were week-end guests of Mrs. Spratt’s sister, Mrs. W. B. Tribble and Mr. Tribble. Cadet Bobby Hamer of Georgia Military College, Milledgeville, Ga., was home for the week-end. Mrs. Jessie Schumacher of Waynesville, N. C., visited her daughter, Mrs. Perry Moore and Mr. Moore last week. Joe Holcombe, son of Dr. and Mrs. Fred Holcombe, is at Warm Springs, Ga. where he is re ceiving treatment. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Mattison and family of Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Henderson and son, John, of Greer, Mr. ana Mrs. Dewey Brazil and daugh ter of Greenville, spent Sunday with Mrs. Belle Henderson. Friends of G. A. Black will be interested to know he is a patient in the Newberry County hospital where he underwent eye surgery Tuesday. H i s daughter, Mrs. Mary D. Law ler, of Macon, Ga., is visiting her parents while he is a hos pital patient. Mrs. George M. Lane of Ma con, Ga., is visiting her pa rents, Mr.- and 'Mrs. H. W. Staton. Mrs. Staton accompan- ied her home following a ten- day visit with Mr. and Mrs. Lane. Guy T. Smith, Jr., has re turned 'to his home in New York City after a month’s stay with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Smith, while convaslecing from a broken leg injury. Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Purker- son of Raleigh, N. C., spent last week with Mrs. J. B. Wil der. On Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Purkerson and Mrs. Wilder were guests of the latter’s and daughter-in-law, Mr. Mrs. G. C. Wilder, in McCor mick. Mrs. George R. Holland is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Joe S. Hagins, and Mr. Hagins in Abbeville. Dr. and Mrs. L. C. Watford and children, Mike and Debbie of Florence, spent the week end with Mrs. Watford’s pa rents, Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Burts. Also here for the week end were Mrs. Burts’ sisters, Mrs. P. M. Myers of Spar tanburg, and Mrs. C. D. Ow ing s of Laurens. On Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Bill Haselden and little son visited thier pa rents. Miss Jean Arnold of Win- tkrop College, Rock Hill, spent the week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Aronld. Charles Ray of Georgia Mili- t a r y Institute, Milledgeville, spent the week-end with his parents, Mr .and Mrs. Davis R. Pitts. Cpl. Jommy Chancy, who has been stationed at Cherry Point, N. C., will arrive Friday having completed his duty with the U.S. Marine Corp. Cpl. Chaney is the son of Mr. and Mrs. S. Carl Cha ney. Dr. and Mrs. Robert Oates Jr., and daughter, Angie and Mrs. Robert Oates of Easley were Sun day guests of their sister and daughter, Mrs. C. H. Thomason and ^family on S. Broad Street Extension. TRIP TO MEXICO Mrs. Anne Taylor visited her cousin, Mrs. Philip Muerer and children in Albuquerque, New Mexico last week. While there spent one day in Juarez Mexico. Mrs. Muerer’s husband, Captain Muerer is stationed at Sandia Base, Mexico, but at this time is irt Montgomery, Ala., for several months ATTEND RETAIL COUNCIL John H. Thomas attended the Second An nual Meeting of the S. C. Retail held in Columbia at the Wade Hampton Hotel yesterday. ' Eddie Cleland has been con fined to his home due to illness. Eddie is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Cleland. Dr. and Mrs. David T. Mixon and children spent Sunday in St. Matthews visiting Mrs. Mixon’s brother, Billy Toda and his fam ily. Mr and Mrs. William Shields spent several days last week in Atlanta, Ga., where they attend ed the Southeastern Photogra phers Association Board of Di- rectors Mooting Pvt. Clyde Longshore, 82, a retired employee of Lydia and Clinton Cotton Mills, were conducted Friday at 4 p.m. at Bailey Memorial Meth odist Church by Rev. Julian Weisner and Rev. J. W. Spillers. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Clinton Mill. Grandsons were pallbearers. Mr. Longshore died last Wednesday at Bailey Memorial Hospital after several months of declining health. A native of Newberry County, he lived here 40 years and wasi a member of Bailey Memorial ’ Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Eula R. Longshore; two daugh ters, Mrs. Mary Johnson of Clin ton and Mrs. Geneva Passmore of Joanna; and several grand children.
