his daughter, Annette, in mar
riage to Robert Monteith Powell
of Whiteville, N. C., Saturday at
8:00 p. m. at the First Presby-
treian Church in Laurens. Rev.
Chalmers F. McCutehen offic
iated at the service, with organ
music presented by Mrs. Morris
Ciayton.
Miss Caroline Teague of Lau
rens and Charleston, was her sis
ter’s maid of honor. Mrs. Thom
as Darlnigton Todd, sister of
the groom ,was matron of honor.
Bridesmaids included Mrs. Su
zanne "Bailey Stuart of Rich
mond, Va., and Mrs.. James Le
roy DuBard of Atlanta.
Mr. Powell ^the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Walter Hogue Powell
of 700 North Madison Street in
Whiteville. His father served as
best man, with ushers including

ville, Frank A. Gault and Wal
ter Hogue Powell, Jr., of White

Laek Waccamaw, N. C.
After her parents had given a
reception at their home on Acade
my Street, Mrs. Powell changed
to' a turquoise wool suit with
brown accessories. She and the
groom will live at Lake Wacca-
maw upon return from a Florida
honeymoon.
Young Adult Class
Has Christmas Party
The Young Adult Class of the
First Baptist Church held its an
nual Christmas party last Thurs
day evening, December 5, at
Vernon’s Restaurant on the
Greenwood Highway.
Twenty five members were
seated at appointed tables decor
ated with the Christmas motif
of hurricane lamps encircled
with greenery and red berries.
Following dinner, each guest
received a Christmas gift and
several games were enjoyed.

Lydon-Whitlock
Rites Announced
Of interest to friends and rela
tives in the Joanna area is the
announcement of the marriage
of Miss Mary Ann Lydon of
Scituate, Mass., and Larry Joe
Whitlock, AN, of Joanna and
Weymouth, Mass. The marriage
took place on November 9, 1963,
at the Saint Francis Zavier
Church in Scituate.
Mn Whitlock is stationed at
Weymouth with the U S. Navy.
He is a son of Mrs. Macy John
son also of Joanna.
Miss Hart Honored
With Luncheon
Mrs. Ansel Godfrey, Mrs.
Thomwell Dunlap and Mrs. H. F.
Blalock were hostesses at a
luncheon honoring Miss Cath
erine Hart on Friday at one
o’clock, November 29.
Miss Hart was presented a
white camellia corsage upon ar
rival. Miss DeRe Wilder, a guest
and also a bride-elect, was also
remembered with a corsage.
Upon arrival, the guests were
invited into the reception room
where punch was served.
Luncheon was served buffet
style from a prettily appointed
table centered with a large ar
rangement of pink roses and ca
mellias topped with a nosegay of
pink roses in the center.
A pink motif was also noted in
refreshments..
Guests were seated at individual
tables centered with miniature
pink nosegays. Later the nose
gays were lifted from the ar
rangement where tiny bottles of
perfume were tied to the ribbons
and presented to each of the
guests as favors.
Mrs. George Brockenbrough
and Mrs. Cally Gault assisted the
hostesses in entertaining.

Cub Scout Pack
Has Christmas Party
Pack 21 of the Clinton Cub
Scouts held its annual Christmas
party, Monday evening, Decem
ber 9, at the American Legion
building.
Guests included cub scouts,
their families and friends.
Morris Seymour, cub master,
welcomed the group and intro
duced the pack committee who
arranged for the party. They
were Guy A. Tumblin, Gary Hol
combe, Martin Mills, Marvin
Gault, and Dr. R. M. Fuller.
Mr. and Mrs. James Von Hol-
len led the group in several
Christmas songs, followed with
the arrival of “Santa” who pre
sented gifts to the boys and girls.
Pack 21 is sponsored by the
Clinton Lions Club.
Musical Tea Given
In Hodges Hall
Hodges Hall was the scene of a
“muscial tea” given by the Clin
ton Music Club last Wednesday
afternoon, with the theme,
“Christmas in Other Lands.”
Beautifully displayed to depict
some of the Christmas customs
in the lands which they repre
sented were lovely souvenirs of
many countries which Mrs.
Grace Connor had brought back
from her overseas travels. Dress
ed in a colorful Pakistani cos
tume, Mrs. Connor, who present
ed the program for the afternoon,
explained some of the interesting
customs in the celebration of
Christmas in the foreign lands
that she had visited.
Greeting guests at the door
were Mrs. T. J. Leake and Mrs.
Robert Johnson. After they view- 1
ed the display, the guests were
officially welcomed by Mrs. Paul
Muller, club president. Mrs.
Muller introduced Mrs.. Connor,
who in turn announced each part
of the program which followed.
Accompanied by Mrs. Harry
McSween, the Choral Group, in
cluding Mrs. Thomas Taylor,
Mrs. Connor, Mrs. Audry Mc-
Crosky, Mrs. Muller, Mrs. J. D.
McKee and Mrs. Henderson

mas numbers. Mrs. McKee and
Mrs. Taylor each sang a solo,

son of Mr. and Mrs. Mack Lee
Brown of Joanna.

Immediately following the
ceremony the couple received in
the vsetibule of the church, after
which they left for a wedding
trip to the mountains.
Mrs. Brown is a graduate of
York High School, and at pres
ent is a sophomore science ma
jor at Ersktne College, Due West.
The bridegroom graduated
from Clinton High School and is
a senior at ErsUne where he is

At County Home
The Woman’s Christian Tem
perance Union shared its
Christmas program with
friends at the County Home
Tuesday afternoon.
A pretty Christmas arrange
ment made by the president,
Mrs. Hubert Todd, was placed
on the piano in the chapel.
The program chairman, Mrs.
J. B .Wilder, presented on in-
teresting program. Christmas
carols were sung by all, with
Judy Nabors as pianist. Mrs.
C. T. Thomason read the scrip
ture, using the Christmas story
and prayer was given by Mrs.
Thomas Owens. A Christmas
story, “Hie Greatest Gift,”.
was told by Mrs. J. B. Dailey,
and a Christmas poem read by
Mrs. Wilder. The meeting was
closed with prayer by Mrs.

president distributed gifts to

were later invited into the din
ing room where Christmas
dainties were served. Centering
the table was a huge pound
cake which was made by Mrs.

Cotillion Club Has
Christmas Dance
The Mary Musgrove Hotel Ball
room was the scene of the Clinton
Cotillion Club Dance held Satur
day evening, December 7, froip
8 to 12 p. m. ^
Greeting the members and
guests upon arrival was the
club’s new vice-president, Gary
J. Lehn and Mrs. Lehn.
The ball room was beautifully
decorated in the season motif
with evergreens, red berries, and
burning tapers. On the refesh-
ment table, a silver epergne of
red roses was used with silver
candelabra holding red tapers to
the side. Dainty hor’ dorves and
ioffee were enjoyed.
Music was presented by Don
Dudley and the Versatiies of
Greenville.
